I purchased one of these today and after five minutes in a supermarket car park I had the unit installed.
I mounted it just the to left of the mirror so it is completely out of sight. Routing the cable along the upper window edge and down to floor level and then to a three-way power splitter between the two front seats. This should give you a idea of the length of cable supplied, especially as there is still slack to hide away.
I mounted the unit to the left of the mirror as the unit is removed from the mount to the left and putting to the right would foul the mirror when removing. This was not a problem as the view still appears quite central on playback.
Powered up and set off on a 1.5 hour journey. I was greeted by a cheery, if tinny, voice at the start and end of the journey.
Play back was quickly setup by taking the supplied micro-sd card and plugging it into the supplied micro-sd/sd converter and into the laptop. A USB sd reader is also supplied, if needed.
The software does not work on the Mac OS <sigh> but does work quite happily under windows XP. It installs from the units micro-sd card or can be run without installing if necessary. The playback is smooth although the sound on it's default settings was a little quiet.
Gaps between files are hardly noticeable and I'm not sure if it is the playback software switching files, not a delay in the recording.
The GPS is accurate on playback and the G readings are too tempting. Resist the urge to see how many G's you can pull going round corners!
First impressions are good, and I really, really hope that I will have many incident free journeys where I don't have to produce recordings in evidence
