Product Description

Parentwise - March/April 1997

Subtitled 'For Marriages in Trouble', this book is the true story of a couple who separated for 27 months before getting back together again. Written under a pseudonym, the author describes her feelings of being taken for granted by her distant and successful husband, the pain and loneliness of the separation, the return of her faith, and the struggle to believe that a transformed marriage was possible. Now 16 years on from the experience she writes about, the author believes that there is no such time as 'too late', and in an Afterword she give four insights into the ways marriages can be restored.

Renewal - November 1996

This book is dedicated 'to those who desire to help others who are in the midst of separation or divorce'. The author ... writes from the experience of her own marriage breaking up and then being restored when God took a hand. The surprise was that God was similarly at work in her husband, which opened the way for reconciliation with both God and husband. Jane Bullard offers encouragement and practical advice to all who are going through marital problems.

5.0 out of 5 stars An important book for those in crisis, 17 Aug 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: NOT ALL ROADS LEAD HOME: For Marriages in Trouble (Paperback)
"Not All Roads Lead Home" is a "must-read" for those who are struggling in a marriage, those who know someone who is struggling in a marriage. or for those who could use a little renewal of faith. A book that starts with the all-too-human feelings of someone in a marriage that appears doomed, it brings the reader through an exciting journey of discovery, love, and prayers answered. What is special about this book is that the author lets the reader in on her frustrations, her fears, and failings as she looks at what might be possible if she allows faith to take over. The husband portrayed in this amazing book takes his own journey, first apart, then with the author, as he picks up the pieces of his marriage. This is an important book in many areas, but most of all, love. A truly fine book!

4.0 out of 5 stars Healed relationships and true fulfilment, 16 Aug 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: NOT ALL ROADS LEAD HOME: For Marriages in Trouble (Paperback)
Grief, despair, unhappiness, anger, self-pity...These negative emotions push Jane Bullard to seek her autonomy. Separated from her husband, Josh, Jane looks for fulfilment elsewhere. Juggling between motherhood and her professional life, Jane raises important issues for reflection, notably those of parenting and employment. This is the story of Jane and Josh, and yet the reader cannot remain passive. We are invited to think through the implications of life's choices. One theme which becomes more important as the book develops is that of the spiritual dimension to life. Litle by little, independently of each other, Jane and Josh both realize their need of God. As each of them draws closer to him, so they are brought back to each other. This is a story with a happy ending! But it is no fairytale. We do not need to remain victims of our circumstances; we do not need to be controlled by our negative feelings. We must exercise our own personal responsibility in the choices before us. True freedom is found in a relationship with God. So, even though this book is about the break-up and restoration of a marriage and can offer hope and help to others similarly imprisoned in a difficult relationship, it goes beyond the bounds of marriage and opens up the way to a life of fulfilment.
