Product Description

The North Face Men's McMurdo Parka is a signature down parka for base camp, mountain and polar epics. Equally at home in icy windswept city environs, this rugged parka is built to withstand wild wet weather. Insulated with 550 fill down inside a waterproof HyVent® shell, the hood is detachable, as is the faux fur trim. External twin hand and cargo pockets have bags of room for base camp necessities or urban commuting. An internal water bottle pocket keeps vital hydration insulated and flowing. Velcro® wrist cuffs, waist and hem cinch cords allow you to lock down and lock out the elements. The North Face Men's McMurdo Parka is an expedition down jacket for unfriendly icy weather.

This is a well made and really warm jacket for low energy activities in very low temperatures. It has two hand warmer pockets with zip closures with pull tags for use with gloves, behind two large Velcro closed cargo pockets. At chest height there are another two zipped and tagged pockets which will take an OS map. There is another smaller Velcro closed pocket on the left sleeve (too small for a map). Inside there are another two pockets at chest level: a zipped one on the left, again not large enough for a map and another on the right which is open with elastication at the top, near the right hem there is a pocket of similar construction both of these unzipped pockets would take a set of snow goggles, or a bottle of water. There are concealed elastic draw cords at the hem and waist with spring toggles. They are not too easy to adjust and probably need to be set with the coat off.

The jacket has a chunky two way zip and stud closure to the overflap which avoids large area of sticky Velcro that can be a nuisance and yet also prevents wind getting through the zip, or exposing a cold spot. The cuffs have the usual Velcro adjuster on them but no elastication on the cuffs, which I like but you may not. The adjusters ensure you get a good draft free seal without the elastic. With the cuff loose, the absence of elastic means it will adequately cover your hand to keep the rain off.

The hood is huge; it will certainly take a climbing helmet. However there is no volume adjuster, so if no headgear is worn or just a skull cap, etc, it falls over your eyes very easily. The hood has an elasticated drawcord, but even with the neck fully closed, there is still a lot of your face exposed. The fur clips off with studs and the hood removes with a zip and studs.

My husband was looking to replace his existing McMurdo Parka and this was too good a bargain to miss. £189.99 when everywhere else were selling them at £250 to £350. The jacket was sent over form Germany and was well packaged and arrived within 4 days. One very happy husband, bring on next Winter.

Excellent Parka ' in freezing conditions you must lock the jacket Down using the waist and hem cinch cords. This will make the jacket feel like a mobile duvet. Pockets galore and all very useful. I would recommend this jacket to anyone who hates feeling cold when going out. Ideal for UK weather conditions. Well worth the money.

I thought long and hard about buying this jacket. I hate cold weather and having read all the reviews I could find they were almost unanimous in their praise for this item. I ordered the jacket from a supplier in Germany and it arrived on time and was exactly what I wanted. It is obviously a well made and well designed product so for once I am looking forward to winter.

Its a Great Warm Long Coat, Had mine over a Year now, I Would Recommend you nip into a North Face Store and Try 1 on for size First, Before you order and it Cheaper off The Net. Best time to Buy these is March time (If your Buying instore) and There is a New Range out now aswell. But its Lovely and Warm.Had to Take the Hood off mine cos its far too BIG..... But the Pockets are Great and I can Carry a Lot in the Deep Pockets.

I got this jacket last year for an absolute steal, around £140 and it's the best money I have spent on a jacket... EVER!!! I bought this as I travel to Scotland regularly and even when it was -15 on a couple of days last winter, you wouldn't notice it wrapped up this baby. As others have commented it really is like walking outside wrapped in your highest tog rated duvet. My only minor gripe, is again as others have mentioned that the hood is massive and falls over your eyes; I'm sure you could adjust but I've never bothered.

Buy it, you won't regret it when your standing watching your kids football match and feel all warm and toasty!!
