One of the central tenets of NLP is that the quality of your communications directly impacts the quality of your experiences (and ultimately your life in general). If this were true then most of the 'gurus' in this ever-expanding field would barely be scraping a living. Harry Alder differs in that he cuts out the 'psychobable' and spells it out in plain English - a godsend for those of us who don't have a degree in Psychology. He also encourages the reader to practice your new-found skills in a fun, stress-free way. Very much a DIY starter kit, and containing the same kind of material as you'll find in most introductions to NLP ... a must for those who find the sugar-coated musings of one A Robbins a tad too saccharine or the indigestible tomes of the more established 'Masters of Communications' a turn off.

The making of a classic 31 Jan 1999
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
It's not surprising that this has become a non-negotiable NLP text for people who want to get something out of the subject without donning sandals and letting their hair grow scruffy. He has kept NLPspeak to a bare minimum (no sign of `elegant') and has not been slow to deviate from the party line to appeal more to real `OK' business people. I gather it's in umpteen languages so seems to appeal very widely for such a potentially heavy subject. Also refreshing, he spares British readers `Robbins' rhetoric' and goes straight for the grey matter and long-term change in the reader. An ideal all round introduction before moving on to his other books for trainers, managers, golfers and NLP practitioners (NLP in 21 Days). I see NLP: New Art etc is endorsed by John Seymour, another respected trainer/writer whose own `Introduction to NLP' set the standards before Alder's more recent books broke into a wider business audience. A classic so worth investing in.

Excellent book but deviates from actual NLP practices. 8 Oct 1997
By TonyD - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
NLP: The new art and science of getting what you want seems to look more into the aspects of the brain management through visualization, goal setting, and simple but very effective tools in life. Despite it portraying these ideas lucidly, the books absolutely fails to deliver any type of substantial art form of NLP and rarely ever mentions persuasion or any aspect of NLP. This book was a good book, but is NOT for the NLP scholar.

To the Point and Right On Target 31 Jan 2002
By Ken Peterson - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
A well written and straight forward book on NLP. As I looked through the available books on NLP this was the one that seemed to provide an informative and readable explanation of the subject. I agree with the comments of other reviewers who indicate that many of the other publications on the subject seem to take off into a different universe where beads, candles, and sandals are customary regalia.

I highly recommend Adler's book as a helpful primer on the subject.
