More About the Author

Had a great time at Cheltenham Literary Festival -- main hall, 500-plus people, with Oliver James and David Aaronovitch and a good old Saturday evening ding-dong about conspiracies. Good to meet some of the very bright people from the audience afterwards at the signing session.

My new Kennedy book for Andre Deutsch -- John F Kennedy: The Life, The Presidency, The Assassination -- is out now. Not cheap, but it really does have some unfamiliar facts and insights, and the facsimile items from the Kennedy archives are fascinating. A lot of people who think they know about Kennedy will find surprises here.

Did you know JFK's homosexual friend from schooldays had his own room in the White House, 30 years later, and was offered the job of Ambassador to Denmark? Or that there were 167 nuclear warheads on Cuba at the moment the Cuban Missile Crisis was declared "over"? Me neither.

BIOG: Ian Shircore's lifelong interest in cover-ups and conspiracies was stirred by the stream of revelations in recent years in declassified documents and answers to Freedom of Information Act requests. And he was handed an amazing bonus, midway through writing Conspiracy! 49 Reasons to Doubt, 50 Reasons to Believe, when WikiLeaks published its treasure trove of secret cables.

He is amazed at the way big WikiLeaks stories - like the evidence that there was probably a fifth 9/11 hijack team on a BA jet bound for London - seemed to be lost in the wash as the press struggled with the deluge of new information.

Bizarrely, Ian was once accused by Sunday Times journalists of being Belle de Jour, author of the sex blog Diary of a London Call Girl. His books include Manage Yourself, Manage Your Life, an NLP survival guide that has been reprinted 17 times, and Douglas Adams: The First and Lost Tapes, a little ebook based on an early, pre-fame interview with the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy author.

Ian is a trustee of an energetic musical charity, the MAE Foundation, that provides instruments and music teaching for the "kids between countries" - the young refugees from Burma living behind the wire in camps along the Thai border.

Just a quick review. I have just started as a manager so I thought I'd look at this. It has some really great questions to ask yourself about the way you influence and react to others and has some great information on energy, sleep and motivating people. But I couldn't shake the feeling that it was more theory based than practical and what manager need is not more theory! We want practical help!! As a seasoned NLP'er I found the Sourcebook of Magic by Michael L Hall to be far more useful with its range of techniques covering many different areas. However, if you are new to NLP - don't get it - Michael says that all the techniques can be used as they are - I disagree - many are far more complex than stated on the page and the book is better as a reference guide. In su8mmary, if you are new to NLP New Manager is a very gentle intro but I don't think it will change much for you on a practical basis.
