You'd think NFL/NFL Films/Warner Bros would find some better games to choose from than these. Considering the fact that the Bears/Packers rivalry is over 90 years and the last 37 years of this rivalry are preserved on video (VCR recordings start around 1975, you'd think this set would have the best of these games available. But these are not.
I was afraid of this but it seems clear now that the producers of these game sets are more concerned with video quality than the quality of the games available. I can't say how much of an error this is on their part because only the devoted football fan would be interested in these sets and these fans care more about the game even if the video quality is clearly from a video cassette in 1977.
Walter Payton had some of his greatest games of his career against the Packers. In 1980, Payton rushed 22 times for 130 yards scoring 3 touchdowns in the 61-7 rout of the Packers at Soldier Field. In 1977, in Lambeau, he rushed 23 times for 205 yards scoring 2 touchdowns in the 26-0 rout of the Packers. Admittedly these, games are hard to find but they are out there and THEY BELONG ON THIS SET!
Instead, what do you get? Two good recent games which fans no doubt still remember well and a lousy 1999 game (featuring a weak Bear team) which is best remembered as the first Bear game after Payton's passing.
This is a disappointing 3 game collection which fails to highlight the best Bear games of this rivalry and I cannot recommended wasting any money on this set. I wish I could and I would if NFL Films/NFL/Warner Bros. would bother to dig up some of the games available on VHS, REGARDLESS of sound and vision quality, because it is far more enjoyable to see the best games in any quality than average games in good quality.
