I installed this board in a 1GHz Athlon machine running Windows XP SP2, and it works OK. However, the bridge chip on this card is VIA type VT6212L. This chip has only four USB ports, so I inspected the circuit board to see how it was possible to provide the internal USB connectors in addition to the four connectors on the rear panel. The internal connectors (there are two, one a five pin header and the other a normal type A female USB connector) are connected in parallel with each other and are connected in parallel with the bottom connector on the rear panel. This means that if you attach an internal USB device you will not be able to use the bottom external USB connector.

Having read the reviews I was aprehensive about this - it may be cheap but would it work.
I plugged it and it worked striaght away with XP SP3. I then inserted the cd to load the drivers and all seemed well but then I noticed the transfer speed was lower and then explorer crashed every time I inserted a USB device. I did a system restore to clear out the drivers and it worked fine.
