Bought this for an old Compaq Evo P4 1.5Ghz with no SATA. I wanted to make it into a Network Storage device using FREENAS. Plugged it in, connected it to a Samsumg 1TB drive, recognised immediately! I haven't tried it for other OSes like XP, Vista, Mac, etc. But at least at BIOS level, the motherboard accepted it.

Works Well 24 May 2009
Wanting to upgrade an older Dell system with IDE drive to a 565Gb Sata drive as a second drive I initially purchased the wrong type of interface.
This card was available as a cheap and cheerful upgrade and did the trick, even came with a Sata i/f cable. Not quite plug and play but a little persistence got everything up and working, no idea about speed but it seems no different to the original C: drive. Windows sees the full 565Gb despite various warnings that it might not. Have partitioned the drive so I can backup C: to F: and use G: for data.

Works well at a bargain price.

First of all be aware there are no interconnecting cables with this adaptor card. You will need to buy power and data cables.

I was intending to install this card with two Maxtor 80GB hard disks on a new build computer and install my XP. So far I have found no way for XP to recognise the presence of my hard disks. The instructions that come on the accompanying Cd are almost useless. For example the instruction on setting the RAID BIOS are simply a picture of the BIOS page.

So replaced the original XP hard disk with the two new disks as additional drives. You can then install the software from the CD so that XP recognises and sets up the RAID configuration. I am now using the RAID disks to store my work files. I use a lot of large picture files and was expecting to be able to load the files more quickly from the RAID disk. So far, unless I am missing some important setting, the speed of access is just the same as from the original (slow) hard disk.

Yes - the card works
No - I have found no speed improvement
