Product arrived in under a week in great condition- no smell as reported by others except for a light plasticy smell (which could be expected given the plastic casing).
However, that's where my review ends- because it does NOT appear to be a standard Kensington-shape lock, and does NOT fit my MacBook Pro 13" (which has a standard lock socket).
The metal bit which goes inside the slot is too wide- around 7 mm at its base, whereas the slot is only 6 mm wide.
I strongly suggest checking your laptop's slot before you buy!
In terms of strength and build quality, however, it seems okay.

Amazon Verified Purchase
As part of a rollout of laptops for pupil use in our school, I purchased these locks in addition to a previous order. I found them to be solid, secure and reliable when coupled to a wall mounted eye-bolt. The plastic dipped key, offers enough room to label each key or use a Dremel to etch a unique identifier into the plastic as well as onto the lock itself.
Simple to use and effective. I have now bought 32 of these locks. I will not hesitate to purchase more as the rollout continues. I have also used some to secure 20" iMacs, flat-screen monitors and some additional expensive IT equipment with security slots built in.

It's not up to the manufacturing standard of leading brands but the product is functional - it works and at the end of the day that's all that matters. That said, I intend to secure a monitor so it will very much be left in place now it is fitted - how it would cope with constant locking/unlocking I am not too sure. So for manufacturing... it loses a star.
The reason it loses another star is because of the smell. Be warned - it has a pungent chemical smell that assaults your nostrils like a 14lb sledgehammer! (I have no idea how the workers in china can work in the factory that makes them - it's that bad). OK, I washed the cable soon after opening and that has helped some but time will tell if the smell dissipates further.
Update: After a week or so, the chemical odour has dissipated to the extent that it is no longer an issue - so don't be dissuade from purchasing this item because of this.

Just terrible
It stank, didn't work, and then the key snapped in the lock so I've thrown it away! I know it's cheap but I at least expected it to work.

Horrendous smell!!
Where has this thing come from? The smell from the lock itself and jiffy bag is overpowering! Like moth balls or very strong chemical. Thought someone was trying to poison me. Read more
