Book Description

New Golf Thinking

By John O'Keeffe, once Olympics Squad, once Group Vice President Procter & Gamble, and Denis Pugh, 5 times Ryder Cup Winning Coach and Sky TV Analyst for PGA Tour events

(NOTE ON FORMAT:dated May 25, 2014: This is a great full-colour Ebook, with many helpful illustrations, using latest Ebook technology. It is fully compatible with almost all devices. It doesn't read as well on the very original black and white Kindles, for which we suggest you see first how it works on the free sample (or choose print copy). But excellent for Kindle PaperWhite and Fires. For iPad, it's excellent using either Kindle App or iBooks . For iPad Mini and iPhone, it's best to use iBooks. And for Android, it's excellent on the Kindle App.)

Download this series of 123 new-style graphics and charts; designed not to be read cover to cover, but for swipe-through, scan and then focus, on smart-phone or tablet; click on any of 40 faults in the contents straight through to a pictorial fix. For all handicaps.

These new techniques:

  • Will revolutionise your golf scores -- the way the Fosbury Flop did for the high jump.

  • Fill the gap between swing improvement and having to go to a psychiatrist for the rest.

  • Solve everyday problems like wasting shots because: you get upset; inconsistent; feel tense nervous or frustrated; lose concentration; good on range, not on course; good front 9, bad back 9; can't put a bad hole behind you; feel under pressure; things go from bad to worse for a time; when going well get worried the wheels will come off.

  • Instead, gain the 7 simple techniques of BOUNCE-BACK, RISE-TO-OCCASION, CAN-DO, RESULTS-DRIVEN, SELF-START, FRESHEN-UP and CLEAR-HEADED. Valuable for every golfer.

  • Field-tested successfully by PGA teaching pros and amateur golfers of every handicap.

Our vision is that every player, of any handicap, can easily become experts in the 7 techniques and remind themselves on smartphone or tablet. A golfer doesn't need a brain surgeon.

And, a completely new Stop Slow Play Plan that will fix the problem at your course, and for the Pros as well.

Prior to that, at 19, whilst studying for a Masters in Chemical Engineering at Cambridge, he played hockey for England, and spent 2 years in the British Olympic programme for the Munich Olympics. He learnt early how to aim high to be "the best in the world".
He left P&G to found Business Beyond the Box (, a world-class program to teach others to achieve the sort of extraordinary results he had experienced.
He found that the tools and techniques he developed to achieve high performance at "Self-Management" at work could be used to revolutionise performance at golf.(

I have always been a bit sceptical of these kind of 'self help' books and kind of thought life is too short to spend a long time reading page after page of someone telling me to think positive. As I then sliced a 5 iron 30 yards out of bounds.

But I was pleasantly surprised with this book. You do a questionnaire and it highlights which of 7 areas you should start concentrating on when playing golf. There are then one or two simple techniques to help you improve your mental outlook when playing golf, depending on which area you are targeting. Then when these become more engrained you can move onto the other areas. So it allows you to dip in and out when needed and does not overload you, which is really good.

As with all these type of books they are not going to enable you to do anything on the course you can't do on the range, But it has definitely helped me make the most of what I have and can do after one read, and I look forwards to implementing other areas as I go on.

There is something for everyone in this book’s fresh and original approach to self coaching. It doesn’t concentrate on technique, equipment, or complicated analysis of “the inner game”. Instead you get a variety of straightforward “can do” techniques than you can learn, practice and perfect yourself. But it’s not a quick fix. The techniques need to be worked at, but the beauty is that you can do it yourself and you don’t have to do it all. It’s a “pick and mix” format, allowing you to choose which areas will fix your particular problems. Try it, or as the book suggests – don’t just try it, do it.

There are precious few short cuts in the pursuit of excellence in any walk of life let alone in golf. But this book offers a good chance of just that.
On the menu are seven thinking techniques to give you the sort of mental strengths many of us leave in the club car park as we slip into our golf shoes. Relatively simple scorecards give you ways to measure your improvement at implementing the techniques.
This is a multi-layered, self-help guide from which you can choose as much or as little as you want, and will work for very golfer.
