I never normally leave reviews on Amazon, however for this very useful little device I am going to make an exception.

Imagine the scenario, you are a student who lives in halls that has wifi built in. You cannot physically access the router or any of the network ports and you have a number of devices that you want to connect to the internet, such as a laptop, phone and games console. What this router enables you to do is re-broadcast the supplied wifi, but on your own personal wifi network with it's own SSID and password. Why is this important? Well firstly, some wifi providers (including those in hotels), charge you a set amount per 24hrs/week/month, per device. When using this travel router the network only 'sees' one MAC address (the router), not each individual device. This can save you money as you can connect multiple devices over wifi, but only pay for one connection. For the hard up students/travelling families/colleagues amongst you, this can save you a hefty wedge as you essentially have a 'shared' access point to the wifi network, instead of purchasing your own connection plans.

Another killer feature of this device (and the main reason I purchased it) is the fact that you can connect your XBOX 360 or XBOX One to XBOX LIVE over BT Openzone/hotel wifi or ANY INTERNET CONNECTION THAT REQUIRES YOU TO LOGIN AFTER JOINING...! This is because once you login to the router and setup which connection you want to re-broadcast, you are presented with the relevant splash screen. Once the credentials are entered there is no need to re-enter them from each individual device afterwards, as BT Openzone has associated the credentials to the MAC of the travel router.

After suffering from increasingly poor wireless performance from my BT Homehub 3 for some time I did my research and decided to buy this router to connect to my BT Infinity service, rather than potentially waste hours doing pointless things at the request of someone in a BT call centre in a far away land. If you are reading this review searching for a new router, don't buy this for standard (ADSL) broadband as it does not have an internal modem and will not work.

If there is one possible downside to this device, it's the physical size - about twice the size of the BT device. Not a problem for me, but some may have issues with this.

Do make sure you have recorded your previous router's logon details before you try and install this. You will need them for the set up process.

I am an IT worker of some years so the choice was made easier for me. The wireless speed and distance reached is hugely superior to the Homehub 3 and brilliant for my Android and Windows devices. It also helped my old original iPad perform better too, but the early iPads do have poor wireless capability in general.

I recommend downloading/installing the Netgear "Genie" app for day to day management of this router. It makes life a lot easier. It even works nicely on an Android (version 4.3) phone

It also comes with Parental Controls. If you use these, do so with care and consider exactly what you want to do before you do it. I needed to restrict access to games sites during certain hours (I have teenage kids!) and achieved this with relative ease.

Works pretty easily. I needed better wireless in my garden. I plugged it in near the door then it connects to my home wireless network and creates a new (separate) wireless network that extends into the garden. I think that it can do a lot more such as being a different access point but using the same wireless SSID, but I wanted to be able to tell which AP I was connected to so I left it at that. Super reliable

This is the simplest piece of tech I have ever set up. Out of the box to running on a laptop and 2 phones in under 15 minutes! It found my network instantly, and the setup on my laptop was easy enough for my extremely non pc literate other half to do. Couple this with the price point and its is a no brainer.
We suffer with a dead spot in the front bedroom and this allowed me to stream video with no buffering for the first time. I urge you to buy this if you need to extend your wireless connection, even if this kind of upgrade fills you with any sort of techno-fear. Simple and very effective.

Summary –
- Works well
- Easy Setup
- Increased download speeds in attic room from 0.4 MB/s to 3 MB/s
- Awkward wall plug design (sticks out a lot)

This product works really well, so well I thought to write my first amazon review. Firstly, why the 4 stars then, well it’s entirely down to ergonomics. The router plugs into the wall along it’s long axis, so it sticks out from the socket about 10cm when plugged in meaning it is quite easy for it to get knocked out/damaged, but mine is plugged in under the desk so no issues for me. And if you are powering it via USB (a useful feature) this is not a problem

I bought this to use mainly as a range extender as my wireless network was only showing real download speeds of between 2 – 5 Mbit/s (~0.4 MB/s) in the attic room where my PC is. Given I am on a 50 Mbit/s connection (which I can achieve wirelessly while in the same room as the Virgin Media Superhub router with my laptop) this was not good. I travel a lot with work so I thought this would be the best of both worlds as I could take it with me on my travels (It has a UK and EU plug) and use its features as a travel router/personal hot spot well.

As soon as I bought it I started having second thoughts and was preparing to buy a dedicated high gain router at over £100. My doubts were misplaced. This little box does the job. In setting up the Netgear Treck I plugged it into a socket under the desk in the same attic room as my computer to configure it (which is really easy) and to my surprise I am getting real download speeds of 22 – 25 Mbit/s (~ 3 MB/s) giving me a speed increase of nearly 8 times.
