NESCAFÉ Dolce Gusto Piccolo Coffee Machine Matt Black by Krups
No Mess, no Fuss. Just Great Coffee
Exclusive to NESCAFÉ DOLCE GUSTO, our clever, easy-to-use pod system has been designed so you can enjoy coffee shop quality at home - whenever you want. The NESCAFÉ DOLCE GUSTO Piccolo may be small, but with a maximum 15 bar pump pressure, this machine creates your favourite drinks in a matter of seconds. The maximum 15 bar pressure pump is essential for delivering the golden crema that you get from coffee shop quality coffee.
For maximum freshness, our coffee pods are sealed after the roast has been ground to deliver to you a delicious aroma and full flavour. And with a wide variety of roast & ground coffees, delicious hot chocolate drinks and coffee shop specialties you'll wonder how you ever coped without it.
Because the coffee grinds stay in the pod there is virtually no cleaning either.
With the Piccolo, your drink is ready in 3 simple steps.
1. Pop in a pod
2. Move the lever to hot or cold
3. Stop the water when you're ready
Hey presto, your coffee, your way every time.
Our machines need virtually no cleaning, however a wipe down of the machine and rinse of the capsule holder every few weeks is recommended.
And remember to descale every 3-4 months or 900 uses, to keep your machine working at its best.
for the perfect drink
What Makes our Pods so Smart?
Inside every pod we use carefully selected ingredients. Then we add a little bit of technological magic. Different drinks need different amounts of pressure to release their full flavour. For example, an espresso needs high pressure to release that delicious coffee aroma and taste and milk needs less. So our clever little pods are designed to regulate the pressure so whichever drink you choose, it's made just the way it should be.
Over 25 Coffee Varieties to Choose From...
From long black Caffè Americano to frothy Latte Macchiato, steamy Hot Chocolate to Chai Tea Latte, have your NESCAFÉ DOLCE GUSTO your way.

Easy to use, nice and quick and clean. It's also not much bigger than a normal kettle so takes up very little space and can be left out for easy use. I'd advise taking care with the plastic water holder on the back that you have to remove to fill as it's probably the only bit of the machine you might chance breaking. Other than that it's nice and sturdy.
You put cold water in and it heats it as it makes the drink. The coffe is nice and hot, but drinkable almost straight off so no hanging around waiting for it to cool to get your 'fix'.
If you have to make any moans it probably will be about the capsules and cost. Locally we can get 16 in a box for about £3.86 which is what? About 25p a cup, so not too bad for a pretty tasty cup of coffee - although you might need to invest in some smaller cups as some of the flavours are designed only to half fill a normal mug.
Where it comes into its own are the flavours with a milk capsule as well as the coffee capsule - but bear in mind you only get 8 cups from each box as you need to use both a coffee capsule and a milk one to get the coffee right, so around 48/50p a cup. These types, though, do fill a mug (although mostly with lovely foamy milk).
Nescafe have a very good site dedicated to the machine, and you get a sample set of capsules to start and registering the machine gets you points to get more. You need to spend about £35 to get free delivery on capsules, but to be honest, the way the wife is going, that should be no problem.
So why not a full 5 stars?
Well, unlike other pods systems I have used, this doesn't automatically switch off (or switch over to an optional 'add more water' function) once the suggested amount of water has been added for each pod - which makes a bit of a nonsense of e.g. the suggested liquid amounts for the 2 cartridges needed to make cappuchino/ chocochino. As a consequence of the lack of auto-stop, you have to stand over the machine watching how much liquid is coming out, trying to guestimate the strength of the drink you're making and ensuring that your cup/mug doesn't overfill. Once you do switch the flow of water off there continues to be a fair amount of liquid inside the machine and this keeps flowing for several seconds - again making it difficult to gauge required drink strength.

It's very quick to pop in a pod and make a coffee, certainly no longer than a standard filter machine, perhaps a little quicker. There's less to clear up too, you just take the pod and throw it away, that's it, no filters to clean.
The coffee is pretty strong, and you can make as large or small a cup as you like. I like the fact that you can fit any size mug underneath, it's strange that some machines are designed only to allow a small coffee cup, not even a normal sized mug.
The price of the pods seems locked down and is are pretty much the equivalent of 25p a pod absolutely everywhere, although a little less with an Amazon subscription I see. We weren't sure about this, however in Sainsbury's I noticed the price per 100g with these pods was about £1.51, and plenty of filter coffee packs were £1.60, £1.70, so I actually think considering you're getting lovely coffee every time with so little fuss, this is a good value proposition.
All in all I really can't think of any negatives, totally recommend.
