5.0 out of 5 stars Banish your Virgin Superhub woes forever! 25 Nov 2013
By Tan y ddraig TOP 500 REVIEWER
Style Name:AC750 Dual Band Gigabit|Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
Having mainly used Belkin and Netgear cable wifi routers in the past, this is my first ZyXel experience and I'm pleased to say that I am very impressed. The router is a tiny affair made of shiny black plastic with a dualband 2.4 and 5Ghz transmission capability serviced by two tiny screw on aerials at the rear. There are four LAN and one WAN ports on the rear along with a separate on/off button for the WLAN which is a nice feature I've not seen on my previous routers. There is a quickstart manual guide or alternatively use the included CD for setup as required.

My broadband services are supplied courtesy of Dickie Branson and co, but unfortunately the quality of the supplied hardware in the form of the so called SuperHub is dreadful. Frustrated with the frequent wifi dropouts I consulted my old friend Mr Google to find that it is a well known issue and the best way around it is to switch off the wifi router mode and just use the Superhub in modem format.

Thankfully this is a pretty simple process which you do by accessing the online Superhub user interface via http://192.168.0.1 and selecting modem only mode via the advanced settings. Two important things to remember here is firstly to jot down your mac address/password and secondly that after logging out of the online interface the new access address for the modem online interface CHANGES to http://192.168.100.01 You will just have to trust me that knowing this will save you a great deal of frustration and panic if things go awry during setup, requiring you to start again.

After you have done this the Superhub reboots into modem mode and now you can connect up the ZyXel dual band router using the quickstart guide included in the box.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works a charm, quick and easy setup 30 Jan 2012
By David
Style Name:300Mbps Wireless N Gigabit|Verified Purchase
I purchased this router as an upgrade from Zyxel's NBG-417N.
Like most Zyxel home user products, it's a compact, quiet, white box.
Was up and running within 5 minutes with easy wizard to connect to ISP.

As regards wireless, it won't make a poor signal better where there is interference or obstructions
but with a strong signal the wireless throughput is higher than the N-lite unit.
With half a dozen devices sharing the wireless the additional bandwidth is useful.

The Gigabit Ethernet connections have removed the bottleneck on our internal wired network,
the status lights clear show which devices are running at 1000Mps or 100Mps.

The admin webpage has a simple mode, but you can quickly change to the expert mode to fine-tune the setup.
Online Firmware upgrade achieved with one button click and a quick system reboot.

Additional functionality includes supporting multiple logical LAN & WLANs including a guest WLAN.
For future proofing, it supports IPv6 LAN & WAN traffic.

All in all, decent value for money.

4.0 out of 5 stars A solid router for a fair price 30 Oct 2013
Style Name:AC750 Dual Band Gigabit|Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
As routers go, this one is pretty decent for the price and provides good connectivity with the dual 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz wireless bands that can operate simultaneously. It also provides 4 standard Ethernet ports for Wired connectivity, which is of course pretty standard for all routers.

The design is a little on the boring side and the quality of the case isn't as good as some I have seen, but overall it is a decent looking router that looks like it will take a few knocks without disintegrating.

Setting up the router is easy, either with the included setup CD or by manually entering your details. Again, much the same as any other router on the market. If you have setup a router before you will know the general process, if however you are new to it, just follow the on screen instructions using the CD..

Performance wise the router is good - excellent for wireless speed and range, providing trouble free wireless throughout my house.

Just as a side note, this router is intended for cable connection such as virgin media and is not intended for ADSL connections, so keep this in mind.

Overall a very good router for a fair price

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice & Fast but...... 21 Oct 2013
By shaz17 TOP 1000 REVIEWER
Style Name:AC750 Dual Band Gigabit|Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
The workings of the router and installing it seemed nice & quick but then I had all the details I needed to install quick & easy like my network name & password etc.....

It did seem to speed up a few wireless things like my tablet which seemed to have a better connection and wasn't as slow has with my other wireless router but I cant say I like anything else about it.

It seems cheap & tacky at the side of others I have had, the grooves in the top may look nice but all I see is a dust collector, which would be a pain to keep dust free in the grooves. It is a lot lighter than my previous one, but the plastic casing seems not as hard wearing or durable.

It takes up a lot more room than my previous one too, which in a small office is a bit of a pain but it does have 2 slots in the back to maybe wall mount it out of the way.

I didnt need to use the cd it comes with but we did when we set this up at my daughters house and it did take a little longer to get it to connect to her network. As her router was giving up the ghost, we found it was a lot faster for her and her wireless gadgets, she was pleased it didnt drop frequently like her previous one had started to do.

We did turn off her wireless and plugged it in her laptop to get it all set up before making her laptop wireless again which we found it wouldnt work until we did this for some reason on hers but didnt have to do that on my desktop.

For the price I thought it might have been supplied with at least one ADSL microfilter which was a bit shameful. I did like the English and European attachments for the plug though, seems everything is coming with these types of plugs now.

All in all a nice fast router for your wireless gadgets, my daughter seems to like it very much.
