5.0 out of 5 stars Very neat 28 Jun 2012

No - it's not quite a mini IPad, but for £70 quid it has to get 5 stars. Had it been pushing the £100 mark I might have bumped one off.

I actually got this to keep the kids off my IPad as they were constantly asking for it, but since it's arrived I have hardly touched the IPad myself. It's been far too much fun mucking around with this!

For videos, simple games like cut the rope, drawing apps and the like it is great. It's a good size (can just slip into my jacket pocket) and the slightly oversized bezel is actually a plus for kids who would otherwise continually find they would accidentally press the touch screen while holding the device.

I'm quite a fussy old bugger, so I do tend to notice niggles and find more often than not they irritate me more than other people (so please bear that in mind reading the below). I was interested to see if I could live with the limitations of this device and I have to say, it makes the grade... just.

Speed: It's faster than my 2 year old HTC Desire (as to be expected) but it's not as smooth as my 2nd Gen Ipad by a fair shot. This is clearly an unfair comparison - I am only using it as a frame of reference for others considering buying this as a second device. It is 'smooth enough' not to annoy, though there is the odd hiccup - juddering here and there, occasionally a screen press goes unnoticed. I can live with its responsiveness - but I do have to stay on top of running apps with a task manager. ICS is pretty nice tho.

The Screen: Surprisingly good for the money, but a way off even a non-retina screen. The viewing angle is quite poor - not a show stopper, and more tolerable if you hold it 'upside down' with the front-facing camera at the bottom for some reason. Fingerprints are a bit of an issue, but not major.

Battery Life: Only 2 days in, but good enough. Probably 4-5 hours of pretty constant fiddling, watching videos and playing games, I can see it hitting the touted 5 hours without much of a problem once it's had a decent run in. Charges off mini USB and mains and is perfectly usable during charging.

Apps: Iplayer - works well enough for most people. Irritates me a little. YouTube - fine.TED - very nice. Kindle - works well. Skype - works well even with video, camera perfectly adequate for this. Temple run and Angry Birds are smooth enough for the kids, but ever so slightly choppy. Browser - Opera is ok. The screen resolution is not high enough for anything over than casual browsing on the go though.

Android as an OS: Quite refreshing after the limitations of IOS. Getting videos onto the device is easy and it plays them well. Some videos a little out of sync, but that could be more to do with selecting a decent player.

Probably sounds overly negative - it really is very good value and I am having great fun with it. About half the people that saw it in the office are now going to get one. You wont be disappointed.

EDIT: I popped into HMV yesterday to look at the Android Tablets they have on sale there. This is significantly nicer than the Archos models they have on sale for £150.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic device - Why bother with an ipad!?!? 21 Jun 2012
By G17RDY
Amazon Verified Purchase
At the time of writing, i purchased this tablet for £70.
Had it out of the box now for one hour, and felt compelled to share my wonderment at such a fantastic device.

Been a long time admirer of Tablets, however i really could not justify and / or afford the money for one, until now....

There is a saying 'you get what you pay for', well friends, in my opinion, with this you get MORE than you pay for!!! What a device, i honestly cannot see me ever wanting to spend £400 on an ipad when this ticks all the boxes! It does everything i need it to.

Ok so on with some details that matter.

7" screen - Very nice, clear, and overall very portable. I was dubious at first, and thought it may be too small, as i have 'played' with an ipad on several occasions and loved the screen. The overall device is slightly larger than a dvd case, the screen itself is slightly smaller. Size really doesn't matter, the 7" screen is perfect, website text is readable and selectable when in standard un-zoomed mode.
Although the screen it not HD - Colours and details are displayed very well.

Touchscreen - Capacitive touchscreen, with no problems whatsoever. Finger movements are tracked very well and no missed selections as yet!

Android Software - Latest software is marvelous - Slight lag at times, but only because i was downloading apps whist installing others, and using the tablet to play with some of the features - Overall it's actually rather polished and works very well.
If you already have an android phone, then you will be familiar with the setup. Homescreen can be customized to include widgets, app shortcuts, etc.
Auto-rotate works well, and so far the g-sensor has worked as it should.

Applications - So far downloaded a raft of applications which really work well - Ebay, Amazon, Paypal, Groupon, Sky+, iPlayer, Angry Birds, Autotrader, Imdb, Kindle - Iplayer streamed straight away with no buffering - Video quality was a little grainy, but again it's not HD and it is more than acceptable.
Comes pre-loaded with items like Facebook, you tube, G-mail.
no problems with syncing - Logged in to G-mail, and email, calenders etc were all updated really quickly.
Installed browser is good, and tablet works well with google voice search - Again everything you would come to expect from android software.

Camera: On a small front facing camera, probably perfect for Skype, but of no use to take photos with (0.3mps)

WI-FI: scanned for wireless networks, picked up and connected without incident, just as fast as my imac.

Speakers: Whilst not the best quality in the world (hey it's not beats by Dr Dre) they are plenty LOUD - Can be tinny when up at full volume - However more than acceptable - I'd say good.

Size and weight: Feels great in hand, nice weight to it, as for size, well said it already, 7" is a decent size. Very portable.

Connections: Haven't tested the USB and HDMI as yet - but they are there ready for testing tomorrow.

Overall - 5 STARS - Great device which packs a punch. Looks good, plays good and really for the money you couldn't go wrong.

5.0 out of 5 stars Natpc No Trouble 27 Jun 2012
By Bjarki

I haven't left a product review in ages but this little gem has to have more. Just works out the box. WiFi setup a breeze. HDMI mini, USB mini, Micro card, all work. Hook them up and go. Played video off 16GB card flawlessly. Speaker tinny at full but nice sound through HDMI to TV and headphones. Camera is not great but fine for Internet calls. All told very impressed. Got about three hours plus change playing games, downloading and surfing before recharge better than my laptop ever. Great value at twice the price.
