I got this laptop 2 days ago (much earlier than promised) and I am still finding my way around it. However, as there are no reviews on this product, I thought I should share what I know by now.
1. Looks - it's anything but steel metal. The cover is metalic, but 'gun metal' would be more appropriate description. In fact is almost black. The bottom is black plastic, with 2 vents.
The keyboard is silver metalic and nicely spacious - comfortable to use, with a separate numeric pad. I am used to 'touch typing' and so far, very few errors. And it isn't jumpy!
The touchpad is large, sensitive and pleasant to use with integrated buttons. Responds to multigesture (not all tried yed, but pinch and vice versa worked fine).
As commented in one review, the edge of the optical drive door is rather rough. What is unusual, there is a narrow 'button' below the door to open the drive. A matter of getting used to it.
Nice symmetrical buttons on the top of the keyboard - on the right power button, on the left dedicated Asus button (haven't tried it yet).
The laptop is rather on a heavy side and relatively chunky. It's a touch slimmer than my old vaio, but is thicker than both new laptops that I recently tried, namely sony vaio fit and samsung ativ 8. Both had better looks, but sony was useless and samsung didn't have an optical drive - no good for me.
2. Ports - on the right side, there is one USB 3.0 port next to the optical drive; on the left 2 USB 3.0 ports, close to each other, one dedicated for charging external devices, HDMI, ethernet and small vega or equivalent (I have no need for those). There is also a microphone/headphone combo, a socket for the external subwoofer, and maybe something else but I cannot check it now.
3.

First of all, the good things about this laptop. For a grand, the build quality and components used are outstanding; whilst it is on the heavy side, the entire thing feels solid and well-made; the lid is a lovely looking black metal affair whilst the inside is also metal with a nice concentric pattern of small holes around the power button which looks good. The underside is a rather thin piece of aluminium which does bend a bit if you really try to push it, but it feels solid in everyday use and has small standoff feet on the bottom, so you don't have to worry about it getting scratched on a surface. The keyboard is also plastic, and is meant to look the same as the metal surrounding it, but doesn't *quite* get there, and looks slightly cheaper for it. But, typing on it is as good an experience as I've had with any laptop keyboard, there's a nice soft snap with every keystroke, and a fairly deep travel. The backlight is a nice white, and has 3 brightness levels, so typing in the dark is no problem.

Connectivity is a strong suit, with an ethernet, HDMI, Displayport and two USB 3.0 on the left (along with the power input, 3.5mm headphone jack and subwoofer jack), a Kensington Lock, an optical drive, another USB 3.0 and an SD.MMC card reader on the right. One point to note is that the USB port on the right, which is usually most used for an external mouse in my experience, is a lot closer to you than on a lot of laptops, being in line with the wrist rest-- this is a strange design choice that can make it quite awkward with USB mice, as their wires can get a little interfering.

Really nice notebook. very responsive touchscreen and nice positive backlit keyboard. One major offput. The touchpad is terrible. No seperate mouse buttons and the cursor has a mind of its own and wanders off from where you left it. Scrolling using the side bar is a nightmare. Very little useful application to adjust the touch sensitive area on the pad and if your not carefull the cursor still moves when your finger is in the button area. This takes the shine off what is a really nice notebook.

Word of warning. Dont expect any response from ASUS if you have any problems or need help. You get left on hold and nobody answers. If you email them via their website support all you get is an automated reply with a ticket number that then dont follow up. Worst support I have ever encountered

This is a full function fast PC with a responsive touch screen, - and it wakes up in less than a second. So it is the best of two worlds, it has 1TB of disk space, but at the same time, as responsive as you would only expect from a machine with solid state "disk", which normally don't exceed 250GB.
I didn't buy it for the sound. Couldn't care less, but now I care. The Bang & Olufsen sound system is unsurpassed and for people who really value sound, there is no other choice.
I would have preferred it with black keys instead of the aluminium. It might look great, but can be hard to see in weak light. Also, don't choose it for the slim build. It is reasonable thin and light, but if you travel a lot, I would go for an ultrabook. For me the machine is great and the size is not a problem when I travel, and I have the benefit of a full function machine wherever I go.
