5.0 out of 5 stars Love it! 31 May 2008
By Reya
Format:Paperback
This is an amazing book, with wonderfully weird, well written Egyptian, Babylonian, Greek, Roman, English, Chinese, Indian, Japanese (and many more) stories!
What I love most about this book is that it's full to the top with culture and the significant difference between the stories, reveals a lot about that particular place and time, when it was first told.
In this book, you will not only discover beautifully told myths and legends from all over the world, but you will also learn (for example) where the magical pattern in a peacock's feathers comes from and why the narcissus flowers grow near pools of water, gazing at their own, beautiful reflection.
After reading each unique story, I was very keen on sharing it with my family and friends and I definitely recommend this book to anyone who is interested in myths and legends of the past!

5.0 out of 5 stars Myths and Legends 2 Jun 2009
A Kid's Review
Format:Paperback
This book is about a collection of myths and legends from ancient times. The majority of the tales are Greek, but there are also Egyptian, Roman, Chinese, Japanese, Norse, Celt, Native American tribes, Inca, Eskimo, African and a few others.

There are some common themes in this book such as unrequited love, offenders of the Gods and explanations of occurences in the natural world. For example, the Norse myth of the Stolen Hammer of Thor explains the seasons; Summer comes when Thor breaks the ice of Winter with his legendary hammer, Mjolnir.

Although the myths are from old cultures, Anthony Horowitz re-tells them in a very modernized style. This makes them light and readable.

I enjoyed this book a lot becuase of Anthony Horowitz's writing style is very enjoyable. I think adults and children alike, whether for pleasure or assignment, would enjoy this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book 7 Jun 2011
Format:Paperback
I bought this book for my 10 years old son who is very interested in myths and legends and he simply loved it.
He read the entire book in one week, every night after school. It is a good selection of legends from different
countries and it makes a very entertaining reading for young children
