Not enough people know Woodroffe...

I've loved this book since I was a child, and it led me on to the artist's other work, including the now-out-of-print 'Hallelujah Anyway' (find a copy if you can).

Woodroffe's style is somewhere between Aubrey Beardsley and Arthur Rackham, if that's possible. This book was first published nearly 25 years ago, so there's a lot of sixties-style illustration, but there are also plenty of examples of the incredibly intricate fantasy style which would characterise his more recent stuff.

great to have this book in my possession again.
it was really "out there" in its day.
but now the art work seems a bit dated and naive.
still, it allowed me to reminisce.
thanks amazon...and patrick woodroofe (artist)
