Not enough people know Woodroffe...
I've loved this book since I was a child, and it led me on to the artist's other work, including the now-out-of-print 'Hallelujah Anyway' (find a copy if you can).
Woodroffe's style is somewhere between Aubrey Beardsley and Arthur Rackham, if that's possible. This book was first published nearly 25 years ago, so there's a lot of sixties-style illustration, but there are also plenty of examples of the incredibly intricate fantasy style which would characterise his more recent stuff.
