5.0 out of 5 stars 'history', not 'History' 27 April 1999
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
This well-informed study takes a critical look at the history of 'History' (as a discipline since the second world war). Furedi argues convincingly that a number of schools of historical thought, such as New Historicism, can be understood as being ideologically motivated. Having engaged with a multitude of thinkers over the course of the book, his final chapter is an inspiring plea for human agency, which addresses a number of commonly-held misconceptions about Marx.
