5.0 out of 5 stars A superb novel, 4 Sep 2006

This review is from: Myth (Paperback)
I enjoyed this excellent novel a lot. It's a fast-paced, highly erotic and extremely gory story of a young couple on holiday on a Greek island.

Tricked and trapped by villagers and attacked by a mythical chimera, the woman becomes comatose and the man becomes monstrously ferocious as he fights for his sanity and for his freedom.

In many ways Myth reminded me of a cross between Clive Barker's Nightbreed and An American Werewolf in London, and I'd recommend this novel to anyone who likes their fantasy dark, bloody and sexually charged.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fast and Furious, 24 May 2007
By
This review is from: Myth (Paperback)
Myth is a pretty good novel - fast-paced and quite well-written. Although the story is a good one - a sort of modern-day version of the Greek myth about the chimera - there is a bit too much gory violence and explicit sex in it for my taste.

However, the story races along and it pulled me in immediately. I felt sorry for the young holidaying couple whose lives are destroyed by their desire to see the mythical creature rumoured to be living in the hills. I particularly enjoyed the main character's fight with the invading chimera - and his gradual metamorphosis into the ferocious creature.

All in all, a very good read, although I wish the author had toned down the graphic violence a bit. And although I'm no prude, I don't feel that detailed, explicit sex scenes are necessary in a good book.
