Book Description

11 Oct 2005
Skeeve is feeling rather restless and suddenly remembers the treasure map he bought on his last adventure. Knowing Aahz's lust for money, he shows him the map. Quicker than a Deveel at the Bazaar of Deva can take your possessions, they were off to find the Golden Cow! There were a few problems, aren't there always. Tanda decides that she is in on the hunt; for a share, of course. Since Aahz is not too up on vortexes, just dimensions, they have to visit a Shifter at the Bazaar for directions-he/she/it gets a 5% cut of the treasure for each time they have to visit him/her/it. (Want to guess how many times our heroes are led astray?)

2.0 out of 5 stars Okay story... BUT... several reservations! 18 Feb 2002

Format:Paperback
Well firstly if you are buying this you should know that it is not a continuation of the MYTH story, but rather an insertion, between books 3 and 4 to be exact. As a story itself I found it to be consistant with Asprin, and I liked it and laughed in places... but I dislike insertions into series, especially when at least the next three books contain no reference at all to the adventures and events!!

And the price. That was an eye opener. If I was not already a long-time addict to Asprin I would balk at paying so much!

4.0 out of 5 stars what's with all the moaning 20 July 2004
Format:Mass Market Paperback
a very enjoyable read and long awaited. Set's up nice between books three and four and is a good adventure romp in the wild west setting.
Maybe Robert could reedit some of his older books and this would fit in easier with the nit pickers but I found it easy to read and didn't want to stop until book was done.
Has started a couple of characters that could come in to a later book.
For new readers to Myth world buy another fine myth, established fans, read it!

Those of you *not* familiar with Robert Asprin: this is not the book to start with. It is not his best writing, and simply does not do his hilarious series credit. If you're an Asprin first-timer, buy Another Fine Myth - it's cheaper, makes more sense (since it's his first one) and is better.

For those of you who do know the series, I'd say read it (though perhaps when it gets a bit cheaper) and then make up your own mind. Perhaps I'm being overly harsh, but it's just *not his style*. Apparently he had a gap of seven years between this and his last in the series of books, but it sounds more like seventy. Gone is his witty narrative, playful banter and gripping descriptions - the landscape and characters are sterile, and it's just not funny. In short, it looks to me like a book by me if I was trying (unsucessfully) to emulate his style.

I have not read the next book he wrote in the series, "Something Myth Inc.", but I hope beyond hope that it's better than this, or I'll be terribly disappointed.
