About the Author

Stacy Gregg loved horses right from the start. Determined to have her own pony, she saved up every cent and by the time she was five, her piggy bank was groaning with enough small change to buy a horse. Unfortunately, her dreams continued to be hampered by the fact that she lived in the city with her exasperatingly 'unhorsey' family. There would be another four frustrating years of cantering on brooms around the Gregg family living room until, finally, her parents went rural and a string of ponies followed. These days, Stacy divides her time between writing the Pony Club Secrets series and working as editor of fashion website Runwayreporter.com. Stacy is 39 years old. She lives with her partner and their seven year-old daughter in a converted soccer club rooms in Auckland, New Zealand. She does not currently have a piggy bank, but she is definitely making plans to buy another horse.

4.0 out of 5 stars Rare Possum, 5 Oct 2007
By Algernon Flowers (Cotswolds, UK) - See all my reviews
There are any number of pony books for young children but this is better than most by a short head. Of course there's a girl with a passion for ponies, some snooty opposition at the gymkhana and the ups and downs of riding (sorry, couldn't resist that) but this has more. This writer proves better than most at handling both a young girl's love for her pony and her awakening interest in boys.

Early in the book, there is a tragic accident and young Issie vows never to ride again - a genuinely moving scene. There is also a nice mystical twist in a book that is perfect for young pony fans, both in the saddle and in the armchair. The first in what might become a very popular series for young readers.

(Note that the author hails from New Zealand which probably explains the appearance of a possum part way through the story. UK proof readers could have substituted a fox perhaps?)

5.0 out of 5 stars Mystic and the Midnight Ride, 18 Oct 2007
This powerful book with delicate touches added to it is about Issie tragiclly loosing her old grey mare; Mystic.
The story goes through emotional stages of riding as this young rider vows never to ride again.
This thriller is unputdownable and is perfect for riders plus pony-fans alike.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mystic and the Midnight Ride Review, 1 Feb 2009
A Kid's Review
Mystic and the Midnight Ride is the first book in the popular new Pony Club Secrets series.
In this book it introduces us to Issie and her beloved old dapple grey gelding Mystic and their friends Stella, Kate, Dan, Ben, and the snooty Natasha Tucker.
It follows the adventures of talented young rider Issie at the Chevalier Point Pony Club, where she rides and keeps her pony, gets taught by Tom Avery (Issie's his secrets favourite pupil) and generally hangs out with friends and competes in fun Pony Club competitions.
When tragic circumstances happen (you've probably already read Mystic... but I'm not giving any spoilers away!) and Issie's asked to help look after an abandoned chestnut mare Blaze, Issie's riding is put to the real test...
A fabulous book for 8-12 year olds (but I'm 13 and really enjoy them, and I'm sure YOU will too!)
The author, Stacy Gregg, is better at writing horse books than most. Many horse books are OK, but Pony Club Secrets are the best I've read so far.
There is one snag, though - if you don't read the series in order, it won't make sense, because each book interlinks with the previous one (if that makes sense)
But all in all, definately one for all horse-mad girls.
