Product Description

Product Description

This volume tells an archaeological detective story. It follows the archaeological investigation of the mummy of an ancient Egyptian called Hornedjitef. He lived in Thebes (modern Luxor) during the Ptolemaic period of ancient Egypt and was a priest in the great temple of Amun at Karnak. We know a great deal about the life, work, health and experiences of people like Hornedjitef, and the study of their mummies has added greatly to our understanding of everyday life in ancient Egypt. Hornedjitef's mummy, buried with expensive amulets and jewellery inside two elaborate decorated coffins, has been intensively studied and modern, non-destructive methods such as CT-scanning have revealed a great deal about his age, his health when he was alive, and how he was mummified. Author Joyce Filer is one of the experts who have spent years unravelling the mysteries of Hornedjitef and other mummies, and she has a first-hand knowledge of his story.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great book about Ancient Egypt, 11 Aug 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: The Mystery of the Egyptian Mummy (Hardcover)
As I am interested in archaology and egyptian history, I thought this would be the perfect book for me. It was as it explained clearly every single detail of the life of Hornejitef, an egytian high priest who was mummified thousands of years ago. It also makes it more interesting and visual as it has superb colour pictures that are taken of the real things. I think this is a well-earned 5 star-rating.
