Over the last thirty or so years there have been many sightings in Devon and. Cornwall of large exotic cats, including pumas, black leopards, lynx and even a lion. Chris Moiser now sees no reason to doubt the existence of these beautiful creatures in the South-West.
In this book he draws together documented reports and investigations from which a picture gradually emerges of animals moving around well-defined territories in an attempt to eke out an existence in their strange adopted home. He also offers plausible suggestions on how they arrived here in the first place.
A biologist by training, Chris Moiser is a lecturer at Plymouth College of Further Education. He has organised numerous field trips to The Gambia for students to study animals in the wild and has spent time in Zimbabwe, Zambia and Botswana observing cats, crocodiles and zebras.

This short and readable book on mystery cats in the UK is the first written by a professional biologist. It focuses on the geographical areas of Devon and Cornwall where a lot of cat sightings activity has occurred, although it is difficult to find anywhere in the UK where the cats have not been seen. This book expounds a new opinion on possible sources of the cats and brings the cats out of the cryptozoology realm and into mainstream natural history.
