If, like me, you've always been interested in reading about the possibility of big cats roaming the countryside of Kent then this is definitely the book for you. It covers different areas and also other mysterious animals whilst providing a history and background to possible cryptids. At times it can be slightly difficult to read as the author has taken pains to document all the sightings of each particular area. However, this cannot be seen as a criticism of the book as this in depth coverage of sightings is one of the books strengths. Therefore it should be seen as a necessary evil when writing a comprehensive book of this nature. It makes excellent reading on a cold and wet winter afternoon and can be genuinely unnerving when you realise the wooded track you were happily strolling through a few days ago has had previous leopard sightings, or the allotments your bedroom window looks over is on a puma's nightly journey. Don't bother collecting those paper cuttings anymore, they're all in here! Very recommended.

You've got to love Neil Arnold. He's like a cross between Paul Weller and Dr Van Helsing. He's one of the few people in the world that make a living from researching monsters and lecturing about them. He also writes some cracking books. At a whopping 397 pages you could knock someone out with this and there is not one worrd too many. Mystery Animals of Kent is jam packed with accounts of strange beasts. I never knew there had been so many sightings in the county.
We have all heard of mystery cats in the UK and Neil covers them with amazing detail but he also tackles wild boar, wolves, sea monsters, giant fish, the Hythe Mothman, hell hounds,ape-like beasts and a host of others who wouldn't seem out of place in an episode of Dr Who, Kolchak the Night Stalker or Scooby Doo!
Neil writes in highly readable style that holds your attention. And what's more many of these are not just second or third hand accounts by records of his own investigations. A gem of a book.

I was very much looking forward to reading this book.I am an avid enthusiast of all things to do with cryptozoology and have had an interest for over 30 years. However Im sorry to say that I was hugely dissapointed by this book. The writing style and content was very repetitive.I had expected to learn something new, but most of the stories had been regurgitated from websites, blogs and old newspaper reports.
If you trawl the web all of this information comes up.I also expected a decent bibliography and some provenance to some of these sightings. The whole feel of the book was as if it had been "cut and pasted".Its such a shame. Some other books by this author co written with Kevin Payne were quite good.
