Product Description

Using the same golden age of magic aesthetic that made our "Amazing Magical Wonder Deck" so popular, "Mysterio's Encyclopaedia of Magic and Conjuring" is the how-to guide that Houdini never left behind. It features literally hundreds of tricks divided into various categories for ease of use including: card magic, money magic, rope, silk, and handkerchief magic, small magic (lots of simple street magic here; everyday props; good for servers, etc.), stage magic (more complicated stage illusions, cabinets that make objects disappear, etc.), mind reading and telepathy.

This is a very useful book. It contains a mixture of classic effects and also some more modern tricks. Make no mistake there are some very well known (to magicians) tricks in this book - several which are used daily by professional magicians. A few you will have seen on the telly even!

The trick descriptions are clear and the excellent line drawings done by Tony Dunn, a man who has illustrated many top class magic books. Few of the tricks require any specialist apparatus. There is also some very good advice spread throughout the book, well worth reading and remembering.

Some of the tricks are stunts really but entertaining for all that - there is a good mixture of "self working" tricks and "easy" sleight of hand. It is certainly aiming well above the level of a childrens book on magic. All in all a very good introduction to the art.

The recomended reading is a little on the archaic side in keeping with the premis of the book, but there are some good strong recomendations in there - the Tarbell Course in particular.

Other books to consider are Magic for Dummies and the new Josh Jay book. Both are also excellent introductions.

However this is a book you will go back to again and again - some of the tricks are just too good!

This is a true encyclopaedia of magic and conjuring and is an invaluable reference for anyone interested in stage magic. It is both well written and well illustrated and many of the tricks are easy to learn. Believe me, people will be amazed if you perform some of the stuff in this. Highly recommended.
