5.0 out of 5 stars return of the mac 9 Feb 2013
Format:Audio CD
i previously only owned a cassette copy of mysterio and the vinyl edition of candleland so the collectors reissue of these records is for me a splendid release.I have been listening to macs cover versions of songs on youtube and am delighted to find the majority of those recordings on these records.Am a bit of an echo and the bunnymen fan and i was really sad when they broke up prior to reforming and then releasing the super evergreen album so it was good to see mac in the studio and live shows in between the fall out years. Both ian mcculloch and will sergeant release unique and sometimes even a few masterpieces when doing there own thing but the chemistry when the pair write and record together is the best stuff for sure.It seems to recharge the bunnymens batteries. You cant never accuse echo and the bunnymen of resting on there laurels or sitting out the twilight years in the shade. The most recent 'The fountain is my fav bunnymen record to date.'Slideling & pro patria mori i prefer but i like these 2

5.0 out of 5 stars Mysterio....it's a mystery why I found this in a bargain bin 25 Oct 2003
By Chris - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
Just pulled this one out of the stack tonight and it still sounds fresh to me.
Of course I was looking for just a crumb of that Echo sound... and for me, Mysterio delivered much of what I liked with E and the Bunnymen. McCulloch's voice still rips chills down to the gut and back up the spine. These 11 tracks have a great range of sound and rhythms.
'Damnation' , 'Honeydrip' and 'Dug for Love' are 3 of my favorites.
Clearly this one never caught on .... can't even show an image for the CD up top, but if you find this in a bargain bin like I did 10 years ago.....BUY IT!!!!

3.0 out of 5 stars a rocking follow up to Candleland 19 Nov 2005
By J. Holmes - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
to compare this cd to Candleland is kind of unfair, i think, because they both represent two different sides of Ian McCulloch's songwriting. while Candleland was more of a winter kind of album...Mysterio is a summer time record. big guitars and brash choruses with a street rock appeal. most of these songs are pretty good and some are great. "Honeydrip" and "Damnation" are the most fun songs on this album and showcase some of McCulloch's better lyric writing skills. also, worth mentioning is the keen cover design. i dig the argyle three-tone layout. very nice.
