I bought this book on a whim whilst buying Christmas presents in an independent bookshop. The cover got me first, then the weight of the book. I picked it up and balanced it in my hands and began to turn the pages. Had it not been for the book seller whose shop was stocked with such gorgeous books, both hardback and softback then wouldn't have found it. I have browsed its pages every day, dipped in and out of the text. It is beautiful.
That is the way to buy books, supporting the experts who edit the massive amount of books that are published by buying at independent bookshops. That way a fair price goes to all concerned, from the creater of the book, to the publisher. So that is what I would recommend. It is well worth it if you love David Hockney, books as beautiful objects, art.
I am told that the first edition is now fetching £100. Hmmmm... never really thought of books as investments.
