HASH(0x9442993c) out of 5 stars Perpetuates the myth that school is uncool 4 Jan. 2014
By Andrew T. - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
My 6 year olds found this book funny-that's why I gave it an extra star. But the overall message of the book is that school is uncool which is not a message that I want to share with my kids. The main character makes fun of kids who study hard, and that's supposed to be funny. I regret buying this.

HASH(0x991de87c) out of 5 stars Learning can be fun at Ella Mentry School! 14 Sept. 2013
By Marcie - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
Dr. Nicholas Is Ridiculous is the eighth book in the series, My Weirder School. In this book Ella Mentry School has to take a standardized state test, and the school ends up failing. They are given a short amount of time to prepare to re-take the test. So the principal hires a local college professor, Dr. Nicholas, to come and tutor the kids in history. Dr. Nicholas has unorthodox ways of teaching, but for once the kids are interested in what she has to say. In turn, the kids get excited about learning.
If you've not read this series yet, don't worry; you can jump in at any time like I did. I've not had the pleasure of reading the first seven books in this series. I did enjoy this book. It shows the value of good teachers. Dr. Nicholas got the kids interested in learning, probably for the first time in their young lives. She not only talked about history, but she also tried to make it an experience. This book is aimed for kids ages 6-10. I think it fits perfectly into this age group. It has plenty of humor and silliness for the kids. They might also learn something about history, too.

HASH(0x94d39edc) out of 5 stars This Book is Ridiculous 20 Aug. 2014
By James Charnock - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
Besides the inane "humor" of an author trying to be like a kid (or some kids), there is no substance to the story: certainly no beginning, middle or end. In addition, it puts down older smart kids and older people and those in authority: people who are bald, with gray hair, walk with a cane, and so it goes. I find nothing redeeming about the book: It seems the author is as immature as the characters, since he created them. The only thing bordering on positive was a teacher specialist who was innovative in the subject of history--but she sort of cheated by cramming the kids for an upcoming test by giving them the answers, so even that portrayal of her ended up negative. This is part of a series of similar titles about the shallow "adventures" of A.J.--all, of which, takes pride in being called weird. I will compromise and agree with that.

HASH(0x94429d74) out of 5 stars Isabella book review 1 Dec. 2013

I thought this book was ok and not great. All the kids were all dumb and stupid. It was not a good idea to do that.
HASH(0x94cea264) out of 5 stars My 3rd grader read this for homework - Kindle version 24 Jan. 2016
By kyouell - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
My daughter's homework for the week revolved around a book she's reading at home. In an effort to get her to read something new we searched the library and found this. It was a good story (and a quick read of me so that I could assist with any questions that came up). It's not "Andrew Henry's Meadow," but it's a good story. I think the idioms were a help in expanding her vocabulary in a humorous way.

She chose 3 stars as meaning it was pretty good, but not great (4 stars) or awesome (5).
