Product Description

The best-selling devotional in the world is now available in audio! This revised and updated edition speaks to us in a clearer and more dynamic method than ever before. This brilliant Scotsman has influenced the lives of millions of Christians worldwide. His ability to take the weightiest of topics and apply them to everyday life is one of his greatest gifts.

The aim of Oswald Chambers was all-encompassing: "to shut out every other consideration and keep yourself before God for this one thing only--My Utmost for His Highest... determined to be absolutely and entirely for Him and for Him alone." Oswald Chambers was born in Scotland and spent much of his boyhood there. His ministry of teaching and preaching took him for a time to the United States and Japan.

The last six years of his life were spent as principal of the Bible Training College in London, and as a chaplain to British Commonwealth troops in Egypt during World War 1. After his death, the works which bear his name were compiled by his wife from her own verbatim shorthand notes of his talks.

Michael Card is an award-winning singer, songwriter, author and teacher. With over 20 albums to his credit, 19 #1 songs, and 14+ books, he is uniquely gifted and qualified to narrate My Utmost for His Highest. His nuanced and thoughtful reading of this timeless classic provide a magnificent opportunity for those regardless of their familiarity of Oswald Chambers.

The book of daily reading with focus on your relationship with Jesus Christ. It will challenge your thoughts and more importantly the way you live and see life. You will be challenged, don't read this book if you are content with your life. The challenges that daily reading bring out are to put Jesus at the centre of all you do.

You'll read "deeper" books, but few as consistently challenging. Chambers speaks, in one-a-day bites, about the devotion a Christian must have to be obedient to God. These aren't "sound bites," but morsels of a very meaty meal. Catholics and Protestants both will find Chambers pointing the way to Heaven, and helping us know how to live out Christ's plan while still on Earth.

A verse accompanies each day, and these ought be looked up to see the fully context. Have your Bible and a notepad next to you.

Chambers is candid to say the Christian life is difficult, but encourages us that this difficulty should challenge us, not scare us away. Maybe Chambers might like the slogan "A few good men," except this time referring to future converts?

For people who like the "Daily Bread" booklets, check "My Utmost" out. Like the DB series, each entry will take you just a few minutes to read, but plenty of time to ponder.

Use this together as a discussion step with another person, your spouse or small group. Figure out why Chambers places the standard so high -- does Scripture agree? And once you figure out the answer for a given day's passage, now what? What is your response?

I read an entry and realize I've got a long way to go, but feel glad I'm on the road.

On initial browsing I was a little put off these notes by the old-fashioned language - don't be! These notes, which are short and concise, contain excellent insights into Christian living that are just as relevant today, and just as challenging. I enjoyed using these notes because they get the balance between `lightweight' and `heavy'. They leave you thinking how mature and humble Oswald Chambers must have been and what a great relationship he must have had with God - it has challenged me to really examine the depth of my relationship with God.

My Utmost for His Highest
A very good book. The book is written as a page-per-day reading, which is excellent because you need to think and dwell on the verse and its explanation.
