Product Description
Alvina has two grannies who she loves with all her heart. Grannie Vero is from the Caribbean island of Trinidad. Grannie Rose is from the north of England. When Alvina's parents go away on holiday, both the grannies move in to Alvina's house to look after her. But the two grannies want to do different things, eat different food, play different games and tell different stories. The grannies get crosser and crosser with each other, but Alvina thinks of a way they can do all the things their own way so the grannies can become the best of friends.

This book is ok. Not much excitement or piz-zaz, just an ok storyline.
Instead of showing the two grannies "warring" over what their granddaughter should do/eat/dance to etc. The book could've simply illustrated the different things our main character does with each grandma.
It should've been a celebration of two cultures coming together not a competition for the two.

I bought this book to try to teach my daughter about diversity as she is only 4 and the nursery has put some odd ideas in her head. I am from a mixed background and thought this book might be perfect. I think though that it was not necessary to show both 'sides' fighting for pole position with the child in the book but rather could haven been written as a more harmonious story focussing on how lucky the child is to have so much variety in her life. Not sure what the author was going for here. Nice concept for a book though and I would like to see more perhaps without the warring granny component. After all diversity isnt about competition its about embracing everything.

I bought this book for 3 yeard old daughter and she loves it, it was great for us because it fit very well with our family. Granny Vera it is from Trinidad my mother is not from trinidad but very close (Venezuela)and granny rose it's from England like my daughter granny. The talk about the food, the music and the animal, it is a very happy book. the only negative that I can see its a litlle bit long.
