    More About the Author

Rachel Vincent learned to read at four years old, and wrote her first story at six. It was about a class field trip to the zoo. In addition to being her first experiment with the written word, it was also the first and only tale she illustrated herself - it turns out that her talents do not extend to the visual arts.

Since sixth grade, her reading interests have centred around the dark side of literature. In junior high, much to her teacher's distress, she wrote her very first book report about Carrie, by Stephen King. She devoured books about magic, vampires, and werewolves by the dozens. Monsters held a special fascination for her, be they human or beast. And eventually "I love these books" became "I think I can write these books," and she began creating fictional worlds of her own.

Rachel dabbled with short stories all the way through junior high, high school, and college, but didn't begin writing seriously until several years later, when she started her first novel. By the time she had completed four manuscripts, she knew she had found what she wanted to do with her life.

Rachel is the author of the bestselling Soul Screamers series. There are four titles in the series, My Soul to Take, My Soul to Steal, My Soul to Keep and My Soul to Steal already published. The latest title in the Soul Screamers series, If I Die is published in Feb 2012.

Rachel has also written a special short story "My Soul to Lose" which will be available as part of World Book Day in March 2012

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Brilliant! 15 April 2011
I picked up this book expecting it to be another book with the same happy-everyone's in love-ending. But after reading the first chapters i didn't want to put it down. Unlike most YA books this has brought some more original supernatural beings into the plot suchas Reapers and taken it away from the vampires and werewolves, which have become very popular.

The plot is not complicated and Rachel Vincent creates some very unexpected twist which leave you eager to read more. The characters are relateable and very down to earth and they compliment eachothers different personalities well. My favourite character has to be Emma because she is always looking to enjoy life and is sometimes the complete opposite of Kaylee.

When i got this book i read it in a day and enjoyed it so much that as soon as i finished i started reading it al over again. I have given it to many of my friends and they have all seemed to have enjoyed it as much as i have. Without a doubt this is one of my favourite books and i would recommend it to anyone who likes a good mystery.

    2.0 out of 5 stars Exhausting 3 Oct. 2011
    Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
After reading the first few chapters I was so excited to think I had discovered a great new series. There was romance, action and a bit of mystery, perfect.
As the book progressed it became, i'm sorry to say, one of the most exhausting and not in a good way) books I have ever read.
Firstly, almost every single mystery the book had to offer was revealed very early on, nothing was left to the imagination.
Secondly, it was a book of never ending talking. Every single chapter was practically dedicated to a conversation, page after page after page dedicated to one long running chat between characters. They drove to his house, had a conversation, they went to the hospital, had a conversation, they went to her house, yep you guessed it, had a conversation.
Don't get me wrong, dialogue is great but it needs to be broken up with observation, internal commentary from the narrator and emotion. Every discussion between the characters was so monumental and non-stop, it just became tiring, like I was wading through mud, turning the pages. I really feel like the book would have benefited from a slower paced beginning and a drawn out reveal of what was happening to the lead character. What a shame.

5.0 out of 5 stars Am no teenager 26 Feb. 2010
I am a big fan of the shifter series but wasn't sure I wanted to read this book. I am 46 so I am no YA, although I have read many good teenage/YA books I wasn't sure I could face another teenager with all the hassels that go with them after reading Hush Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick. I decided not to bother until a 26 year old friend lent it to me and told me to read it. Now I am looking forward to the next in the series. Hush Hush dragged on but My Soul to Take dived straight in and having to put it down to go work was annoying. So YA or not so YA its worth reading. Enjoy.

    5.0 out of 5 stars Soul Screamers book 1 3 May 2011
By Sarah (Feeling Fictional) TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE VOICE
Rachel Vincent was already one of my favorite adult authors for her Shifters series but with My Soul to Take she has cemented herself as one of my favorite YA authors too. As a massive fan of paranormal stories I spend a good amount of my time reading about vampires and various different types of shifters but one thing I've never come across as a main character before is bean sidhes (or banshees to go by the more common name). Now don't get me wrong, I still love my vamps & weres but it was so refreshing to come across something new. Rachel Vincent has created a fascinating mythology to go along with her banshees and I was sucked into Kaylee's world from the very first page.

Kaylee is a great main character, she is smart, feisty and has a very unusual ability - she can sense when someone is going to die. When she does she has an uncontrollable urge to scream and once she starts screaming she just can't stop. This ability has already landed her in a psychiatric ward once and she will do anything she can to avoid ending up back in there again. All she wants is to be a normal teenager, one who gets to go on dates and have fun without worrying when the screaming may start again, but life isn't that simple for her and when other teenagers start to die mysteriously her problem gets worse than it ever has been before.

When the hottest guy from school shows an interest in her Kaylee is worried about what will happen if he discovers her secret. But Nash has a secret of his own and he seems to know more about Kaylee than she knows about herself. Can Nash help her uncover the secrets that have been kept from her? While they're at it can they discover why so many teenage girls have started to die?

Can it stand alone? Probably, but I would recommend you carry on with the series.

She senses when someone near her is about to die. And when that happens, a force beyond her control compels her to scream bloody murder. Literally.

    My Star Rating; 4.75

    Would I recommend it? Yes

Who would I recommend it to? Most people, but for specifics:Teenagers and those with a love of YA fiction. Lovers of the paranormal/supernatural genre who want to read about a new creature. Don't be fooled by the review quoted on the cover. This isn't only for Twilight fans.

Would I ever read more by this author? Most definitely!

Review; This book is easy to read, I got absorbed quickly. So far I have read this book twice in one year. Not once did I get bored. Now the quote on cover might put some of you off. Don't let it. This book is nothing like Twilight. This is coming from someone who is not fond of Twilight, but loves this series. Whether you're a Twilight fan or not, this book series is worth a read.
It was a fun read considering the subject. Class mates dropping dead? Surely that's not fun...
