Considering this book is printed by a dedicated craft press there are a) poor instructions b) no pattern pieces in it and c) a downloadable pdf for the doll only on the stitchcraftcreate website if you buy the book from them. In fact, the downloadable pdf's which will print all the pieces at the correct size will cost the price of the book again. All the patterns are available for each doll at £1.99 (clothes only) and the doll itself is seperate. The patterns copy at 120-140 %. The book does not read well, there is an element of translation involved which is obvious and poorly done. Definitely style over substance, any person wanting to make a rag doll and clothes would be better served using Pinterest for free patterns or another book. Def not one for beginners who will be frustrated from the start. Lovely pictures, poor execution.

I've had to totally re-write this review after making the doll...
I'm certain this book has not been tested before publishing by anyone other than the author! There are so many mistakes that a sewing tester would've picked up and got corrected and I've only made the doll, vest and bloomers! The doll's head doesn't work...the amount of gathers in the head back are so obvious when the doll is completed that I know I'm going to after to reduce the number of gathering for the next doll. Also the author says gather the head back and adjust gathers to fit the head front, but then you have to attach the head back and front to the respective body pieces before stitching front and back together! How can you adjust gathers without pinning one to the other and then unpin to sew after the next step? To feet don't look right either the dart leaves a point in the wrong place (next time I'm going to have to try a curved dart), and she never mentions about clipping seams on the feet or arms which with 1 cm seams would be essential for the arms and legs to be smooth for stuffing. 1cm seams are in fact far too big for toy projects anyway...so it is a benefit that we are left to add our own seam allowances, I reduced my allowances anyway!

I'd also like to see how the author possibly manages to machine sew the stuffed arms and legs onto the body! Impossible! Also these pieces are really small so the author describes a technique of inserting a sleeve for the first dress after sewing the side seams on the bodice and sleeve, and then she says to sew a piece of tape to the inside of the sleeve for elastic after this! Again impossible with such small pieces, even baby clothes are made by attaching the sleeve to the dress BEFORE sewing any side seams! This method is described in a later garment...

1.0 out of 5 stars Painfully disappointing, terrible instructions. 11 May 2014
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This book is beautiful to look at, terrible to use. The instructions are poorly translated, possibly by someone with no experience of sewing this type of item.

The patterns have to be resized, mostly by 140% (which is about A4 to A3 on a photocopier) This is time consuming and costly if you don't happen to have your own photocopier or scanner and A3 printer.

BEWARE! The pattern pieces need a 1cm seam allowance adding before cutting, this isn't mentioned until MUCH TOO LATE in the instructions.

Overall, this is a pretty coffee table book, but useless as a 'how to' publication.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very disappointing! 14 May 2014
By Meggo
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This is a very pretty little book, however it is very disappointing in that there are virtually no instructions. I am an experienced sewer but could not make head or tail of parts of this book. The pattern pieces all need resizing which I was not expecting given the price of the book, may similar books now include full size pattern pieces. I have returned this item.

2.0 out of 5 stars Pretty Book - Only for very advanced Doll Makers 11 May 2014
By Dustinb
Format:Paperback
I really like the ideas in this book and the Mood Boards for each design are very creative, making each project very exciting. The patterns do need to be enlarged by 140%. The instructions are impossible to understand and I pretty much put them aside and just sewed the pattern pieces from past experience instead. I had to look up on youtube on how to make the hair and made most of the outfits the same way. This is a great book if you are looking for a project to make your little girl happy, it just takes patience and a lot of knowledge and imagination to get the dolls right

2.0 out of 5 stars awful instructions 4 Jun. 2014
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Loved the look of this book , but am very dissapointed , it has taken me hours to photocopy just a few of the patterns and enlarge them , as you have to seperate the pieces and make sure to copy them leaving enough room to add a seam allowance after & its cost me a fortune in ink & paper.

Not only that but the instructions are dire , even some of the markings on the pattern pieces dont make sense . I have managed to make one doll , eventually , but only because I am an experienced sewer & made it up as I went !!

This is such a shame , as the book is well layed out with lovely pictures, but definitely not for beginners .

I will attemt an outfit once I have a few spare hours to spend at my photocopier, as I bought this book wanting to make as a present , so am detirmined to persevere !

1.0 out of 5 stars Very disappointed. 26 May 2014
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Very disappointed with this book. Not only do you have to find a photocopier to enlarge all the pattern pieces by 140%, you then have to add a seam allowance to each piece - no mean feat. I complained to the company - twice - and have never received even the courtesy of a reply. I don't see myself using this book. Waste of money.
