This is a very entertaining play, funny and sad, and you really want it to turn out well for poor Guy. However, as a writer myself, I can sometimes see the wheels. The characters tend to be a bit stereotypical - the rampantly camp, the tragic, the bit of rough and so on - but it's an interesting insight into gay life and worth seeing.

I bought this to study with my A Level Literature students who do a module called 'love through the ages'. It felt important to show them different presentations of love, not just Shakespearan sonnets. The plot is a little contrived and the characters, in 2015, feel somewhat stock gay stereotypes but there are touching moments and strong messages surrounding unrequited love and friendship. I would probably watch the stage version.

Bought the play to read before seeing it at the Domar. Third scene weaker than the first two and, I suppose under the circumstances of the time, one should not quarrel with then less than positive conclusion.

Interesting to read but even better to watch. Still relevant after twenty years, and will be for many more to come.
