My Neighbour Totoro is a film which all of my family loves. It's been a staple watch for the last 7 years and the soundtrack has at times extended our love of the film to the car when we've popped the CD in.

This contains 20 tracks and they are presented in chronological order, by listening to the music you get to experience the film from beginning to end - obviously there are no visuals but the music is such an important part of the film that it works brilliantly on its own.

All members of my family have our favourite tracks and they tend to correspond to our best moments in the film, personally I love the Catbus track (Nekobasu - track 17), though I am in my thirties I enjoy listening to this by my own, it has a great 80s vibe to it and a bit of cheesiness - but the tracks are overall very strong with certain cues and melodies repeated throughout, it's almost hypnotic! I have experienced several Totoro soundtracks and until this one, the only other which was satisfactory was the official Japanese release which was a bit pricey on import. I've heard a few which looked good but turned out to be pan-pipe or piano music and not the actual film score - this official Studio Ghibli release not only faithfully represents the music from the film but also contains a rather nice booklet. It's only thin but it's a nice inclusion and has some great artwork in there.

In a nutshell: An excellent soundtrack from a fantastic film, the music is full of life and all the family love listening to this. The English dubbed "Hey let's go" song isn't on here - all tracks are in Japanese, so if you want that you'll need to look elsewhere. My kids love the fact that this is Japanese, it makes it extra magical for them.

When watching My Neighbour Totoro, it was the soundtrack which struck a chord within me, I hadn't really heard anything similar and so a general love of music and curiosity brought me to Joe Hisaishi. There are a lot of themes and emotions to indulge in here, some are beautifully melancholic but others very happy and light. In all honesty i think anyone who hasn't listened to the tracks Moonlight Flight and A Huge Tree in the Tsukamori Forest need to because they're missing out on sounds that will instantly change their mood for the better.

As for this CD itself, it is very bright and colourful, there's also a little booklet with some great artwork within it as well as information and is nicely priced considering the niche market.

This review isn't here to change your mind i just want to give My Neighbour Totoro's score 5 stars!

This soundtrack has the EXACT same contents as the Japanese My Neighbor Totoro Soundtrack, but at a fraction of the price.
Whilst this isn't technically the official Japanese soundtrack, it is an OFFICIAL UK version, which is licensed by Wasabi Records. As there are many bootleg companies ripping off the Japanese soundtracks, it's very hard for those who don't know what they're looking out for to purchase a genuine one, so buying this is a safe option.

When I stated this is an exact copy of the Japanese soundtrack, unfortunately for those who prefer the English version of "Hey Let's Go!"/"Sampo", will not get it as the lyrics is Japanese.
Personally for me I prefer the Japanese version so this doesn't really bother me at all, but I would agree that the case is misleading as not only is everything is in English on the case, it states "Hey Let's Go" on the track listing, they should of just labelled it as "Sampo" only.

That aside, this soundtrack is one of my favourites and is delightful to listen too.

The style of the case is wonderful, it has a lovely picture of Totoro and the girls on the front which is actually a slipcase, slip that off and you are presented with a beautiful artwork of the house Mei & Satsuki live in, inside you will be presented with a very collective looking audio CD and booklet.

The booklet contains track listings, an interview with the composer Joe Hisaishi, more beautiful artwork, a description about the film and English & Japanese lyrics for the Ending theme.

*Also would love to see Wasabi Records release the rest of the film soundtracks, especially from the films Pom Poko, Porco Rosso, My Neighbours The Yamadas, Whisper of the Heart & Howl's Moving Castle.

For those who have seen the film and love the music or anyone who are a genuine fan of Studio Ghibli, this is a must for your collection!
