Easy reading for early advanced reader 28 May 2014
By Ho Kheong Tan - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
This is my first book on the protagonist rat Geronimo Stilton. Geronimo Stilton has captured the attention of young readers by using vivid colours, fonts and even pictorial image of the word being used e.g. the word "North Pole" is ice capped, "bright colours" is coloured by 12 different shapes of colours, "Excited" was printed in a much bigger form to represent the higher beat experienced by the character, and so forth.

This story introduced us to the protagonist Stilton's new assistant "Pinky Pick". I loved the way Stilton described her. The image was so vivid! The birthday party arranged by Pinky Pick that has a transformational effect on Stilton was great fun to read.

However, parents beware when allowing the very young to read by themselves. In order to make the protagonist Stilton and his mice more alive, words such as fabulous, enormous are spelt "fabumouse","enormouse" and so forth. Long exposure without guidance might lead to the children learning the wrong spelling. You cannot blame the children because they have not reached the level to discern words that are intentionally spelt wrongly to portray the characters and their way of speaking.
