Product Description

Product Description

A spoof handbook for ministers and the ministered to - Christians who are happy to laugh at themselves and at the ever-so-slightly bizarre things we, and our spiritual overseers and gurus, have been known to do in the name and for the sake of God. The satire targets the excesses of each branch of the church from evangelical fundamentalism to high-church ritual.

Stephen Tomkin is a contributing editor of Ship of Fools, the largest Christian website in the UK, a contributing editor for disclosure, Scripture Union's Bible notes for 14-18 year olds, and is the author of Lion's forthcoming biography of John Wesley. He lives in London.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rev Gerald is my saviour, 29 Aug 2002
The author manages to send up every wing of the church, and still retain a degree of pomposity and ridiculousness. The book is thoroughly good fun, and really makes you laugh when you get to the 'agony column' sections The Rev says. It is funny because most people know somebody like Gerald, it's just that Gerald takes it a bit further. Bring on the Romanian incense - Hark the Gerald angel sings!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wicked!, 18 Jan 2003
I've not totally read the book but what I have read is wicked! It made me laugh so much I nearly cried. This may be because I know Stephen Tomkins my self and the book is just like him. It is exactly his kind of humour. A must for every christian.

Blessings on you, anointed siblings! This is a laugh a minute. Reverend Gerald is hilarious in the flesh (as many who have been to Greenbelt Festival will know) and, if you know anything about the church, his book will quite easily have you rolling on the floor with tears in your eyes.
Can't recommend it enough. In fact, I know TWO people who are getting this book for Christmas this year!
