good but could have been great 15 Aug. 2013

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? ) Durability:    Educational:    Fun:
First off, she's big. VERY big, taller than a Barbie doll, a nice change from the tiny MLP toys Hasbro has been making so far. I'm thinking she's intended for girls at the upper end of the age range, but I think younger girls will be delighted as well. She has quite a commanding presence.
Like the smaller pony toys she is off-model compared to the show, but less so, in my opinion. A few youngsters have mentioned this, but most don't seem to mind. The complaint one hears most is "Why are her wings blue instead of purple?" but that and her too-red horn do keep her from looking blandly mono-colored. A few have also said that "it doesn't sound like Twilight." I'm surprised they didn't go to the minor trouble of recording Tara Strong herself for the voice.
There's plenty of play value here. She has a removable tiara and necklace and comes with a small comb and four barrettes; her mane and tail are well-attached and coming them doesn't leave you with hairs in the comb. A wheel hidden in one foot makes her wings flap when she is pushed along the ground; an observant child will quickly figure out that you can "fly" her through the air and roll the wheel yourself to make them flap that way. They also flap now and again when you activate her voice. She has lots of different sayings and they seem to come at random, but I have to say they don't sound like the sorts of things Twilight Sparkle says on the show. I understand why - she isn't intended to be an education toy, after all - but it's still worth of note. As an aside, her large size suggests that budding Raritys out there might find it fun to make clothes to fit her - her size would make it far easier for small hands to make dresses for her than for the typical fashion doll.
Build quality looks good too, with the plastic parts being thick and well-molded. I wasn't able to check battery life but she takes four common AA batteries which can be found everywhere. I would guess that either the lights in her wings or the drive mechanisms for her animations will be the first thing to fail, but I don't see that affecting her play value in any significant way.

I'm rating her at four out of five stars, with the deduction coming from the minor points of her voice and coloring. I think if I were an eight-year-old girl (and Amazon doesn't allow eight-year-old girls to write reviews, which is a shame) I would go the full five!

Is her name a Twlight joke? Y'know, since the vampires sparkle. 19 Aug. 2013

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? ) Durability:    Educational:    Fun:
The Princess Twilight Sparkle toy is one that my daughter didn't have much interest in at all when I showed her pictures online. A few days before Twilight arrived in the mail, I kept asking her if she thought it was a cool toy or if it was something she didn't care about. Of course, not being much of a Twilight Sparkle fan, she went with the latter. But wouldn't you know it, as soon as I took the giant pony out of the shipping box, she changed her mind.

For anyone who wanted bigger My Little Pony toys, this is the one for you. Princess Twilight Sparkle is HUGE, and chances are if your child is a fan of this particular pony, they're going to fall in love with this version of her. The colors are bright and beautiful, she comes with four different colored barrettes as well as a cool comb, and of course there's the removable crown. As with most MLP toys, you can style her hair however you want. Unlike those other toys though, Princess TS sports a few more features...aside from being huge I mean. Press Twilght's Cutie Mark and she'll talk and flap her wings or her horn will glow. The wings can also flap when you roll her along the ground. Princes TS even has eyes that blink when she talks and sings, making her come to life even more!

Overall, they did a pretty good job with the design of this toy. It's one thing to make a giant pony toy, and another to really spruce it up with a couple of cool features. There are a couple of issues though that keep her from being a 5 or even 4 star toy. The main thing is the plastic used. I know most kids who play with these toys are careful, but there's always the chance that it might fall from a shelf or accidentally drop from one's hand. The plastic doesn't feel that sturdy, and I wouldn't be surprised if some of it chipped off in the event of an accident. Then there's the voice, which doesn't sound at all like Twilight Sparkle. That seems to be the big complaint with kids for this toy. It even sounded off to me as soon as I heard it, and I've only seen a handful of MLP episodes. If it were just these two problems, I'd gladly give the toy 4 out of 5 stars. Yet there's one glaring issue: the price. How in the world can this toy cost so much money?! I remember a Buzz Lightyear toy that came out about 4 years ago for the same price, and it could move around, dance and more. Compared to that, Twilight seems VERY limited in what she can do. Paying retail for this feels like you'd be buying a "big" present. Yeah, it's big literally but not in value. If your child loves it, that's all that matters, and that's awesome. I just strongly recommend waiting for a price drop on this because for anything over 2/3 the original price, it feels like a rip-off. Fortunately it was released recently and not in the winter time, so there's a good chance she'll reach a better price point by then.

My daughter really liked Princess Twilight Sparkle for a week or so, then moved right back to her other MLP toys and Littlest Pet Shop. Like I said, she's not a big fan of Twilight Sparkle (Rainbow Dash, Derpy and Chrysalis are her favorites), so I understand. Little fans of the character though will probably adore this toy. Again, shop around for a better price or just wait a while.

Fun but too pricey 6 Aug. 2013

My 2-year-7-month old granddaughter LOVES this toy. It is very colorful, the lights are pretty, she enjoys the music even though it is limited, and she likes using the comb to brush the hair.

This is well made and durable--nothing cheap about it. Having said that, I rated it four stars because anything over $40 (which is still expensive) is just too pricey for this toy.

Nice doll, but the voice is not even close 2 Dec. 2013
By Amazon Customer - Published on
Pretty disappointed in this product. My 3 year old received it as a birthday gift and loves everything ponies but wasn't into this toy. She noticed the voice is way off, for those who watch the show she sounds more like Princess Cadence than anyone and even that's a stretch. Kind of hard to believe they wouldn't record the voice actress for this or just use existing clips from the shows. If you can get past the voice itself the things the toy says is nothing like what Twilight says in the shows.

Its a great idea and the doll itself is nice but if you want to feature it as a talking toy you should at least get the voice right.

Cute and Loaded for Fun 10 Aug. 2013

The ultimate My Little Pony, big size, comes alive with the touch of a star on her side to sweetly sing, talk and giggle.

Twilight Princess Sparkle, ours, stands a foot tall, made of hard plastic, comes alive with the on/off switch on her underside(4 AA's- included) and the touch of the star. Her pink unicorn horn and blue wings light up, the wings move slightly up and down, her big eyes move back and forth and her head nods when she speaks.

They include a simple plastic tiara, necklace, and small star/heart hairclips for her mane and tail. Her hoofs conceal little wheels to roll on the floor and lift her wings. She says and sings a few phrases: "Can you help me with my tiara.", "Let's learn how to fly." "Hello, I am ..." "Giggle giggle giggle" "Can you give me a pretty hairstyle" "Look at me sparkle!"(Wings light up). Once on, she speak randomly even without pushing the star.

Really made for the pre-school crowd, our older girl 9, who owns a ton of My Little Ponies, checked her out for a second and moved on. But she's plenty cute.
