This book was an absolute gift in that, as the series is not really available on DVD in the UK as of yet (the DVDs that are available so far are out of episode order and, frankly, don't seem to be very good value for money) this is one of the few ways I can get a pony fix without either buying Blind Bags (which to be honest never appealed to me) or merchandise off the internet.

The book is hardcover and as many people have said before, it is practically a replica of the 'Elements of Harmony' book from the series, although it does have a tiny pink label that can easily be overlooked. The sleeve can also be removed if you don't fancy fighting off a plastic flap every time you open it.

Now, I am an adult (so technically a Pegasister) and I feared the book would be very simply written and, to be honest, I also feared it would be lacking in content. Not so. It has introductions from the show's producers and directors, and comments from the music directors, animators and writers sprinkled throughout where appropriate. It features all the mane six in the characters section, along with Princess Luna and Celestia, Princess Cadence and Shining Armour, Spike and others. It also has a section filled with all the baddies - Nightmare Moon, Trixie, Queen Chrysalis, etc. There is also another chapter which has the lyrics to every song in the series from Seasons 1-3, along with explanations from the music director as to cut scenes and songs, and the purposes of those songs. The best chapter of all has to be the one which details each and every episode from Seasons 1-3 with a complete synopsis and images from each - all in full colour!

When I first saw previews of this book, while I was intrigue that they put the whole show and lore into a guidebook but I was also sceptical at who the book was aiming for, the target audience (little girls) or the other audience (Brony, if you don't know the meaning of that word, look it up!). However when I saw it was "Foreword by Lauren Faust" I trust her enough to had seen and approved of the quality of the book (otherwise she wouldn't had put her name on the cover) and order it. My fear and doubts were cast to the moon once I started reading the pages today!

To help me to gather my thought on this review I will split it into different section in order of the book pages-

Cover- First thing first, the hardcover of the book is gorgeous! It is the same book cover that Twilight was reading at the start of the very first episode but it is more detail (more golden decorations and contain the Element of Harmony gems). Granted it abit off by having the My Little Pony logo at the top of the book but it is small so it can be easily overlook. Make sure you look at the back of it aswell for an nice extra decapitation. Also the book feel heavy which is a good sign showing it isn't a light weighted cheap cash in book.
These details (and the text and MLP logo) have a shiny gloss to it which render the brown part of the book look more leather like (I bet someone will try to use golden metal decorative and real leather book cover for a more real book look).
As you can see, the book got a slip on cover for the title and the extra info that all books must have so that way it's a win win (info slip for the barcode and website etc which can come off so you can have the book look more authentic).

I got this book about a week before I saw the film based on the show, between the two the book was the more worth-while thing seeing.
Not only does it list a ton of information on the series (season 1-3) and provide pictures of the characters and several fan-favourite background characters (which personally I found as good drawing reference when I don’t feel like looking at a headache-inducing computerized screen all the time). But it also includes several concept artwork (including some not uploaded to Lauren Faust’s DeviantArt account), an interview with Lauren Faust describing a lot of what she went through to create the setting and the characterizations and many comments throughout from the staff that really shows how much they all really enjoy working on the show as well as points on certain aspects that can get you thinking. It also includes a section on the end that discusses the real-world impact the series has had that would give any fan a warm fuzzy feeling inside.
And for the sake of this review, if I were to criticize anything it would be the lack of characters listed, personally I would have liked to see a few more (I will note this was my main reason for getting the book). Also that most pages are discussing the individual episodes and I would have liked to have seen more of the other stuff…so I guess my only complaint is I would have liked to see more.
So if you’re a fan or just want to learn what the fuss over the series is all about, then I would recommend it.

I received this as a gift and love it.

The book's cover in itself was enough to lure me in. It is a lovely companion for any Brony out there, even if just to reminisce the last 4 seasons with some peaks at concept art. The book has been put together with loving attention, my only gripe would be to have pictures of ALL the background ponies. Don't get me wrong, they are largely covered, but still, would have made it 20% cooler :)

Still a great gift - recommended
