4.0 out of 5 stars A bit on the small side, but delivers nonetheless...! 19 Oct 2013

For those curious, the premise behind this publication is basically a graphic-novel-style version of the two-parter pilot episode, created mostly using still shots from the show itself, with speech bubble overlays and the like. Not checking the fine print on the product page, I was expecting it to be of a decent size, maybe around that of the MLP comics, however the final product is more akin to the 'small' dimensions of a generic children's chapter book - perhaps not the best for a graphic novel. Apart from that small complaint, however, the product is just as described, and as a fan of the show, I'd say it was worth the purchase.
5.0 out of 5 stars First two episodes in a print version 27 Mar 2014

As an earlier reviewer indicated. This is just the graphic novel of episodes 1 and 2 of the show. I wish it was the same size as the other IDW MLP books, but the quality is still nice and the artwork is true to the show. My 4 year old daughter really likes it as directly following the TV episodes helps her follow the panels in the comic, sometimes with comics she is unsure of which panel is next but with this one she is certain as she knows what is coming next.
4.0 out of 5 stars Quality, but small 13 Jan 2014

Not sure why IDW decided to print this in a smaller form factor than their other comics. Maybe they're testing the waters to get into producing more episodes as manga-esque books, as that's it's size. Nevertheless, the quality that IDW puts into their printing and production is intact and it follows the first 2 episodes of the show's first season.

The only complaint I could come up with is that the cells are set up like they originally intended it to be in the larger comic book size, then changed their mind later on during production and just shrunk the images, so everything is a bit smaller than I would like. There's not a huge amount of detail to the cells as they're just frames from the show itself, but the text could stand to be a bit easier to read.
