Meet the Gisbornes and fell in love with them all.
Guy and Cassia, happily married and passionately in love with each other since twenty years. Their sons: William, Owen and baby Philippe; their daughters: Thea and Evelyn. William is a worthy priest, Thea bold and impulsive as a girl, becomes a loving wife and mother, afterwards. Owen, "so much like a little bull, pushing and shoving his way about".
Evelyn is our heroine, the good girl, the lovely young woman, full of virtues, respectful and obedient. "She is spirited, but so very pleasant in temper" - says Guy of his beloved daughter. "I should never be a bother to anyone", good Evelyn says of herself.
But even the best girls have their moments of weakness. She romantically gets infatuated with a scoundrel, a young nobleman in disgrace, always living on the run, René. Unfortunately, Evelyn is already intended to another. This could cause a lot of troubles in the family. Will the good sense prevail, or Evelyn will follow her impulse, instead? Will she offer a chance to her fiancée Simon, or will she let go her feelings for the charming René?
If you appreciated "The Tempest", the very start of the Gisborne family, you will love this sequel, "My Lady Gisborne". In "The Tempest", Cassia and Guy meet in fortuitous circumstances and fell passionately in love, changing their destiny forever. Cassia heals Guy with her love from both a bad physical wound - and what is most important - from self-destruction, as his life is ruled by cruelty and regrets.
Guy and Cassia, together after many years and ordeals build a strong family, full of love. Guy is an affectionate father, deeply attached to his family, always fighting to hide his feelings, because it is not acceptable for a man of arms in the Middle Ages to show love and care. He can reveal his true self only to his beloved wife.
Cassia, the pillar of the family, strong, patient, caring wife and mother. She can face whatever trouble and solve whatever issue with love and understanding. "An emotional lot, these Gisbornes are", says Simon when he meets the family for the first time. Yes, the Gisbornes are an emotional, stubborn, impulsive, passionate lot. An adorable family.
Evelyn and Simon, are a charming couple as well. Their engagement starts as a combination, but they try to know each other better and their affection and attraction grow little by little. Evelyn sweetness and innocence melts Simon's coldness and restraint in expressing his feelings. Maybe they are the perfect match.....as Guy and Cassia were twenty years before.
Charlotte Hawkins prose is mesmerizing: you simply can't stop reading, as the style is so fluent, language so crystalline, and dialogues enchanting. We end the story wishing the characters all the best and secretly hope to meet the Gisbornes soon in another sequel, maybe with grandsons and granddaughters.....
