This is a wonderful book. I am alarmed that it has taken so long for me to find it. (Thanks to Rev Paul Wilson for bringing it to my attention). I am a psychiatrist practising in the care of older people with Alzheimer's Disease and similar disorders. Dr Davis was a minister of the Methodist Church. With the help of Betty his wife, he describes something of his journey in faith up to the onset of his illness. He fell ill in 50s. He then describes his experiences from within the condition, sharing insights into emotions felt as well as the practicalities of lost and retained functions. He identifies those approaches which help and which frustrate. He reflects on the impact of the condition upon his own faith and spirituality. Wonderful.

A wonderful book. My father died of both Parkinsons disease and Alzheimers and I have been having terrible memory problems recently which seem to be getting much worse as time goes by. I needed a book which would allow me to understand more just what Alzheimers is all about. Both this book and 'Losing My Mind' by Robert DeBaggio are two books which I would definitely recommend if you want to learn more about this awful disease.

My Journey into Alzheimer's Disease 24 Mar 2000
By Donna L Barton - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This was truly an insightful look into the thoughts and feelings of a man facing Alzheimer's Disease. Robert Davis was a very intelligent, successful minister in one of the largest churches in Miami when he tragically had to face the fact that Alzheimer's was robbing him of his ability to function. His wife's love and his faith in God are the elements that keep him going. Davis writes "Many Christians have found that when life completely tumbles in, when they are without strength or any hope or help for themselves, or when their minds become too tangled to even hold thoughts, that God overrules the circumstances and that Christ comes to minister to them at the very point of their need."

This book is a great help to those suffering from the beginning stages of Alzheimer'a Disease, or for family and friends of a loved one with Alzheimer's. I guarantee you will find this book inspirational.

An Adult Child's Experience 29 Sep 2002

This book is so insightful, especially the portions written by his wife, Betty. My father-in-law is in the final stages of this disease. I wish that I had discovered this book when he was going through the first phases. It would have helped us be even more understanding. ( We patiently listend to the same story over and over. In Bob's and Betty's words, they tell why.) My mother-in-law cried as she read the book. I urge anyone family that is experiencing this to purchase this book! An excellent resource!

My Journey into Alzheimers by Robert Davis 3 Aug 2002
By Debbie Cazander - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I found the book "My Journey into Alzheimers" to be exceptionally informative and inspirational. To read a book on Alzheimers Disease, written from the perspective of one afflicted is unique. Robert Davis has given his readers a look into the day to day battle against a much dreaded illness. This book is very thought provoking and touching. As a christian my self I was inspired by his continued relationship with God,despite his disease. I also found it very beneficial to gain insight into how a person with Alzheimers thinks and feels, and how this changes as the disease progresses. The practical advice on how to initiate a conversation with someone who has Alzheimers is helpful. No doubt, many readers will be thankful for the courage and dedication Robert Davis and his wife have put into this book. Having been permitted into their lives during this most difficult time is truly remarkable. However I find myself wondering how things are with Mr.and Mrs. Davis now. Is there perhaps a website, or e mail address where I can write? Thank you once again for this excellent resource. Debbie
