3.0 out of 5 stars Third in the "Inferno Club" series 25 Aug. 2011
By Marshall Lord TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback
This is the third in a series of Regency romances involving members of the "Inferno Club" which pretends to be a dissolute drinking and wenching club for aristocratic rakes but this is actually the cover for a secret order of noble spies who are working to defend King and Country.

The series to date consists of:

1) "My Wicked Marquess: Inferno Club Book 1"
2) "My Dangerous Duke (Inferno Club)"
3) This book, "My Irresistible Earl"
4) "My Dark Prince: Inferno Club: Book 4"
5) "My Scandalous Viscount (The Inferno Club)"

Part of the Order's time is spent fighting open threats, e.g. Napoleon, but much of the ongoing story concerns their fight against another secret organisation called the "Promethians," a ruthless international campaign with an idealistic vision to remake world society but which uses murderous methods to try to achieve it.

The main action of the story begins in 1814: as the hero, who is the "Irresistible earl" of the title, meets for the first time in a decade the woman who he had loved and lost when he was a very young man and she was a teenager. He was unable to marry her because he was about to take up a dangerous, secret posting abroad during the Napoleonic wars. Thinking herself deserted, our heroine married instead a worthless aristocrat.

1.0 out of 5 stars Seriously Boring 7 Aug. 2011
By Joe
Format:Paperback
The whole Inferno Club series is boring and "My Irresistible Earl" is even more boring than the previous one. Totally dislike the heroine, characterless being. The only bit interesting is the "Drake" story. Read the older Gaelen Foley books, give this series a miss. Totally waste of my time. Over 300 hundred pages of boredom.

5.0 out of 5 stars the Inferno Club gets better and better! 19 Nov. 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Each book is better than the last and My Irresistible Earl is the best so far (but then Jordan is my favourite so far!). Like the others it's full of peril, love and romance with a good historical background. It also weaves in the next story effortlessly which leave you feeling excited and eager. I love the series and any wait to read the next one!

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing 25 Jun. 2011
Format:Paperback
There is a lot that could've gone right for Galen Foley in this novel, but a lot that went wrong instead. As one reviewer put it, the story has all the right ingredients, but the combination that Foley decided to put them in didn't work too well.

For one thing, I admit I did enjoy reading about Jordan and Mara, as they are both very likeable characters. Jordan is the type of hero that you rarely see starring in those novels, and it was refreshing. Mara could've been a lot more dramatic and annoying and unreasonable given the circumstances and events, but thankfully, Foley decided not to put her in that role, making her seem a very strong, confident and appealing character.

There were many secondary characters who were given prominent roles in this novel. It seemed like Foley was preparing us for her next novels - Drake is the obvious one, but I suspect she might still have something up her sleeve for Beau. A lot has been revealed in this novel about the kind of work that the Order is involved in, and things are starting to escalate as Foley is tying up all the loose ends here and there.

The plot and the characters are very interesting, but I really believe that Foley could've done so much more with it than she currently has. I have been an avid fan of her books since her Ascension and Knight Miscellany series came out, and I thought "My Wicked Marquess" was such a great kick-off to this series that I had really high expectations, and maybe that's why I'm not as satisfied.

Finally, I feel like in this book, the focus was mostly on the Order and their events and tying up all their loose ends a lot more than it did on the actual romance between Jordan and Mara.
