SYNOPSIS: Renowned director Paul Robaix (Yves Montand) doesn't want his actress-wife Lucy Dell (Shirley MacLaine) to star in his latest picture, an adaptation of Madame Butterfly. With the help of producer Sam Lewis (Edward G. Robinson), Lucy devises a scheme to convince her husband that she's right for the part. Complications arise when she lands the lead role, disguised as a geisha girl. Charming little comedy filmed on location in Japan.

The AUDIO is the original ENGLISH language (Dolby Digital 5.1) - there are also French, Italian, German and Spanish dubbed audio-tracks on the disc. SUBTITLES on the DVD include English, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Spanish and Swedish.
I was so pleased to find that this film had been released on DVD at last. I have always been a fan of Shirley McLaine and in this film she excels herself. She plays the part of Lucy Day, a very successful comedy actress married to Yves Montand, an equally successful film director. However, as the story opens, he is suffering a crisis of confidence, and is wondering if his success is dependent on hers. He decides to fulfill a life time ambition by going to Japan to film a production of Puccini's 'Madame Butterfly' using an all Japanese cast - I won't spoil the story - but he finds that things are not always what they seem to be! It is a film with a 'feel good' factor, and one that I will watch over and over again.
arrived on time. Excellent film, I loved Shirley Maclaine in this comedy drama, so sad but funny. Would recommend to anyone. The storyline was brilliant and clever.
i remember seeing this film when i was a teenager and loved the way shirley played the two characters. gambit is like a modern take on it but with more sinister objectives.
