Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Those who pick up My Friends' Secrets expecting Ms Collins to dish the dirt on her Hollywood chums will be sorely disappointed. Although Collins' enviable literary career--in both autobiography (Past Imperfect and Second Act) and fiction (most recently Too Damn Famous) -- has been founded on her rich insider knowledge of that gilded cage, this, her ninth book, is a more wideranging political intervention. Inspired by the success of her personal beauty regime exposé My Secrets, Collins here delves into the secrets of almost 30 of her female peers, from Shirley Bassey to Betsy Bloomingdale--all over 40 and thus well Over The Hollywood Hill. But it's not all chitchat. Collins' introduction is a passionate polemic against cultures which sideline women beyond childbearing age--and a tirade against women who let themselves go, those "whose diet consists of junk calories and fizzy drink, and ... spend their free time .. lolling in front of a TV" (perhaps watching Dynasty?) To Collins, degeneration, infirmity, illness and declining good looks are avoidable: it just takes effort, she insists. She praises and probes her chosen glitterati with that trademark hybrid of post-war starlets who went west--half pull-your-socks-up no-nonsense austerity-era England, half psychobabbling 90s California. But the superficial among you may take heart: despite Joan's uncompromising moral, My Friends' Secrets is as stunningly photographed, gushingly gaseous and fabulously frivolous as you could possibly wish. --Alan Stewart --This text refers to an alternate Hardcover edition.

Joan Collins is possibly one of the most inspirational people I have ever met. Her tips in this book will ensure that you stay youthful and ravishingly thin. Ivana has some great tips about egg whites and Jerry Hall is fabulous as well.

Georgeous. hmmm hmm hmmm

I read this book as a rough draft and found myself unable to put it down. From Ivana Trump to Twiggy each of the ladies interviewed by Joan opened up and shared the secrets that every woman wants to know. As a follow-up to the best selling My Secrets Joan has proven that if the man in your life won't tell you, your best friends will!

Typical! 3 July 1999

You just have to hand it to Our Joanie. How she manages to look the way she does at the age she is and still remain likeable is a mystery, but she somehow pulls it off. There are no surprises here: (stay off the booze, the fags and the junk, stay out of the sun, stretch those muscles and you might just end up collecting your bus pass in style. All I can say is that I'm working on it(on and off) and Joanie & Co.are nothing if not an inspiration.Granted they've got money (and a few other useful things, like long legs and high cheekbones) but then so does Paula Yates.I rest my case.Browse, and enjoy!
