Review

For very different reasons, this, too, is a book which should prove easy selling in days when most fiction presents a problem. A story of a boy and a horse (a ??earling filly, to be exactly and of how each helped bring the other through to greater matually. The publishers suggest an analogy with The Yearling. Personally, ?? felt is somewhat closer to National Velvet in its appeal. It is the story of an eleven year old boy, at odds?? with his father whom he never seems to please, but this is offset by a very perceptive mother. The boy lives in a perpetual daydream - his one intenas desire that he have a colt of his own, though he is allowed to ride virtually any horse an the ??. The whole action of the story takes place against the pattern of a ?? devoted to rela?? blooded horses, out in Wyoming. At last his wish is granted, and he shoo?? his yearling, against all advice. The story is centered on the process of winning "Flleka" and of proving the rightness of his choice, against terrific ?? There is acarcely?? any touch of sentimentality - there's plenty of action - there's a vigorous picture of the activities, the heartbreaks, the psychology of life on the ranch. High percentage readability. (Kirkus Reviews) --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Product Description

This is a classic tale of the American plains and one boy's belief in a horse. Ken was entranced to watch Flicka - the speed of her, the power, the wildness - she led the band. Ken loves riding on the ranch in Wyoming. All he wants is a colt of his very own. Horses are the family's livelihood, and Dad can't afford to waste a valuable animal on a dreamer like Ken. Will Ken ever get to own the horse of his dreams?

my friend flicka is a brilliant read. I have read all three in the seiris My fiend flicka , Thunderhead and The green grass of wyoming the first book i got was thunderhead as i was the only one i could find. My friend flicka is about a young boy called ken who lives with his mum ,dad and his brother Howard, all ken longs for is the day he is allowed a colt of his own and after getting bad test marks at school ken proimises that if he can have a colt of his own he will work harder and get better marks BUT this is only the beging of a three part story of the ups and downs of ken Mclaughlin's ranch life. READ ALL THREE BOOKS AND FIND OUT WHAT HAPPENS !
