Product Description

Product Description

Jackie Ball knows that happiness is hard to find, so when Dan Lewis jogs into her life with his skin-tight shorts and sexy smile things start to look up. One night he presents Jackie with a diamond ring and suggests he trade in his BMW for a people carrier. But there’s a fly in the ointment – her first husband Henry. As far as Jackie’s concerned, their marriage is well and truly over, so she engages the services of a solicitor and sets about moving on.

But Henry has some old scores to settle and the divorce papers hitting the dog-haired mat are just the excuse he needs. It’s not that he still loves her, but Jackie walked out on him without even leaving a note and now he wants to know why...

3.0 out of 5 stars Contrived and forced plot lifted by some emotional depth, 14 Aug 2008
By Roman Clodia (London) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)
This review is from: My Fabulous Divorce (Paperback)
Jackie and Henry met in London and married three months later, only to have her walk out on him on their first wedding anniversary. Eighteen months later she is back home in Dublin and the successful owner of a flower shop when she decides that they should divorce to tidy up the past and let her move on. But getting back in contact with Henry stirs up deeper emotions than either of them expect...

This is a slightly odd mix of light chick-lit with something emotionally deeper at its heart. Henry starts off as a fascinating character but sadly descends into something far more familiar (and an extremely bad poet too!). Jackie is the classic chick-lit heroine, needy, emotionally rash, vulnerable etc etc. The sub-plots of her Irish family were dull and distracting, and the ending clearly predictable. Sadly Dowling shows the promise of writing something far mature around the Henry character but instead settles for the commercial and easy. This could have been so much better than it is.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Lovely, Well Written Book, 25 Jan 2008
By Mel "Mel" (Dublin) - See all my reviews
I read this book recently and really enjoyed it. It's about a young woman who is trying to geta divorce from her ex-husband, but realises that she still has strange feelings for him. OOps!
It's very well written, with cracking dailogue and I would highly recommend any books by this excellent author.

4.0 out of 5 stars A great chick-lit read..., 24 May 2009
By C. Rucroft "The little bookworm" (North Yorkshire, England) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This was the first Claire Dowling book I had read and I really enjoyed it. The story is so easy to follow and is a very similar style to Jane Green/Marian Keyes. Perfect chick-lit reading.

It only just missed out on five stars because I felt the writing was a bit rushed at times. Still well worth a read x
