3.0 out of 5 stars Grande, we have a "problem"... 25 Aug 2014
Format:Audio CD
Across the pop universe where fleeting stars come and go abundantly and ever so regularly, there come quite often little ones who look certain to shine bright. Ariana Grande is a multi-talented, hard-working, honest-looking young girl, trying to find her way in the entertainment business. Though pop stars tend to shed their clean-cut image and alienate in the process, and since what makes a good person may be subjective, the fact that this little sweety seems to foster a positive image is proof that she has good intentions. This, her follow-up to last year's "Yours truly", is a mix of styles clearly aiming to appeal to as many buyers possible, as well as to showcase her vocal range. Credit should be given where it is due, so, although Grande's "My everything" grande it is not, it is OK for what it is, so there is no point in dissecting it. Gotta love her, a future pop princess in the making for sure, look forward to watching her blossom.

Loved this CD. Great vocals and a mix of music genres - pop, dance, with tones of rap, soul. Great.

4.0 out of 5 stars Growing on me all the time... 1 Sep 2014
Format:Audio CD
I'm not really into pop/dance music, at least until I've had a few beers, but that says more about my age than anything else. What initially caught my attention, courtesy of Amazon's crafty way of making recommendations, was that Ariana Grande looks almost identical to the girl who sits right next to me at work, I kid you not, and much to the envy of my male colleagues. It was genuinely freaky 'what the hell?' moment. It says much for the power of advertising that a simple and elegant cover shot of a beautiful young woman can spark an off-the-cuff purchase. Anyhow, I'can't say I've regretted it, for Ms Grande has a crystal clear voice and great vocal range. I found myself not really paying attention to the songs at first, just concentrating on her superb voice. After a few listens, my favourites are 'Problem' and 'Break Free', both dance tracks and with a pumping bass score to accompany them. Sounds great in my car! This album is growing on me and I shall be interested to see how Ariana's singing career develops for she has already achieved at 21 more than most people will in a lifetime and yet has so much potential. If you are not naturally into pop/dance and like me have stumbled across this album, I would nevertheless say, go on try it, you may like it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Superior Pop 25 Aug 2014
Format:Audio CD
A bright career surely beckons for Ariana Grande - this album certainly has a number of really good tunes - Problem is probably the song of the summer and Break Free isnt far behind. Why Try is another cracker. There are almost too many styles on this album, but My Everything shows that Grande has the vocal potential and connections to release a classic R and B / soul pop record in the future, and is very accomplished in its own right for a 21 year old ex childrens TV kid, releasing her second album. As an aside I think her clean image is a breath of fresh air, compared to how sexualised her peers seem to be. Maybe I'm just getting old and cranky on that point though!

I cannot believe I am about to say this: this is one of my favourite albums of the year, and I mainly listen to hard rock, classic rock and metal!

But I also really admire strong female vocals, and there is something in particular about Ariana Grande that raises her above all her peers! Seriously, I at first approached this album cautiously on YouTube, having wondered to myself what all the fuss was about, and found myself so engrossed in the vocals, the choruses and the irresistible nineties rnb style arrangements that I just HAD to buy this!

And I am so glad I did! Problem, Break Free and Hands On Me are addictive slabs of pop, and throughout the album, Grande proves herself a fine enough singer to rival the likes of Mariah Carey and Beyoncé!

As I said, I tend to prefer rock music, but I do love a strong female singer. And alongside Agnes Carllson, Cristina Scabbia and Gwen Stefani, I think I now have another favourite artist.

She has proven herself to be masterful vocalist on this album, and she definitely has good taste in music. It is my wish that she keeps up the good work! An unexpected highlight of my musical year, this stands a near equal to my current favourite 2014 release: Lacuna Coil's Broken Crown Halo (an alternative/metal album which also features exemplary female vocals).

And this might lose me some love with those of a more commercial taste in music, but Ariana Grande is so much better than Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift, Jessie J and Rita Ora it is ridiculous. They will have their day for sure, but I have a strong suspicion this girl may be the future queen. Last time I loved an album of this ilk as much as this was in 2003, with Beyoncé's masterful and timeless Dangerously In Love.
