Review

"Beautifully produced with exciting artwork, this book is a pleasure to behold... it's a truly brilliant book to give to a child that thinks he or she doesn't like poetry." The Irish Post" --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

Product Description

A delightful melange of quirky poems by one of this country's most popular poets. my doggie don't wear glasses; so they're lying when they say; a dog looks like its owner; aren't they; John Hegley's doggie may not wear glasses, but then she is a carrot. Enter this celebrated poet's weird, witty and bespectacled world and meet Grandma with her filthy glasses, the organic leek who has learned how to speak, the octopus who gets a nasty shocktopus, the man who drew his cornflakes and a whole cast of other interesting characters. Surprising, serious, and sometimes just plain surprising, this is a collection of poems even your dog might like. Unless, of course, your dog is a carrot too.

Bright, bold and funky, "My Dog is a Carrot" says it all. John Hegley invites you into the weird, wacky and wonderful world of poetry. The distinct illustrations add life to the poems such that they posess a unique identity of their own. John Hegley compares logs and dogs, uncles and aunts. Here it is...a nutritious collection of poetry for your heart to digest...

I've been a long time fan of John Hegley and my 8 year old son has been into poetry for a while, loves Spike Milligan and Benjamin Zephaniah. Hadn't put these two facts together and thought to buy him a John Hegley book before now. This is a nice accessible slim volume of his poems with child suitable themes. You're never too young for a bit of quality poetry and this book had my son laughing like a drain and having to be told several times to turn his light off long after his bedtime. Great stuff!

Quick, easy delivery to specified address. Great book of kids poems that even adults will love. It was a late 21st birthday present for my sister in-law who is studying creative writing - she loves it as much as me!
