A new adventure every day, 3 Mar 2006
This review is from: My Discovery Pack: Adventures in Learning (Hardcover)
This pack has been a very useful way of stimulating discussion and activity in our family. Each of the cards in the pack suggests different activities, and stimulate learning through activity, play and the conversations that go along with that. In addition, each member of the family can approach the activities in their own individual way, and the author helps to foster this approach by providing the necessary support in the form of a parents' guide. The achievement record with stickers is a good way of motivating children as they soon build up an impressive, personalised display of what they have done, which in turn encourages them to learn new and different things. There are also very practical suggestions, leading to lots of "Why didn't I think of that?" which help parents to create the right learning environment. How did I manage without it?

my home educating must have book, 15 Feb 2006
By A Customer
This review is from: My Discovery Pack: Adventures in Learning (Hardcover)
This is a brilliant pack and in my view, a must for any family. There are a set of activity cards which give my 6yr old great ideas almost daily. His favourite at the moment is the pirate themed ones. For example-He has made pirate people from cardboard tubes and we have had a play with them. There is also a parents guidebook, which is great help to me and it gives me lots of ideas on how to encourage him and to take the theme further if we want to. There is also an achievement album, which reminds me a bit of a lap book. It has spaces for "all about me" and reward stars to stick in appropriate places for achievements made. The child learns a wide range of subjects in a really fun way. They don't even realise that "learning" is taking place.

Discover Your Child's Imagination and Achievement!, 8 Feb 2006
This review is from: My Discovery Pack: Adventures in Learning (Hardcover)
Another brilliant creation from Lynn Huggins-Cooper which has been a huge hit with my children. I just love the way this not only offers suggestions but stimulates their own imagination as well. The Achievement Album included in this pack is well thought out and acts as a record so each child can see all the exciting things they have discovered and look back and remember all the things they have done as well which gives a real sense of achievement especially to children perhaps of a younger age range. Older children can use it as a record keeping book and use the stickers to award point values for things they have particularly enjoyed. The Parents' Guidebook is especially useful covering everything you need to know to make each adventure with your child a fun and exciting one for both of you. Including parent's notes for each card with further ideas and tips for you to use with your child. My oldest children read this guidebook and found it helped them get back to basics and actually play alongside their younger brother and sister, actually experiencing new things for themselves on a different level to the younger ones. It reminded them of simple things and how essential learning through play discovery is for them. They learnt a lot about themselves using this guide and how much they actually do know and what great things the world holds for them to discover in the future. The Cards represent aspects of nature and our world which can be explored using the method ideas on the cards or by using each as a springboard for expanding ideas which do flow naturally upon just looking at them. Bright, colourful and easy to understand, each card does stimulate the imagination and exploration by each child in an individual way. It is very exciting to watch children discover the little things about the world around them that normally pass by without much acknowledgement. My nine year old daughter made a Moon Book. The excitement oozing from her was magical when she had completed it. My youngest two who are 4 and 6 years old have enjoyed the Mapping A Lost City Card the most. They made a map of their front garden imagining the world underneath it. Which exciting creatures live there. What life cycles have taken place in the earth. It is worth noting that the ideas on the cards are laid out in a way that incorporates easy to find materials for minimal cost to achieve great results. Overall, I would highly recommend the Discovery Pack as a valuable resource and fun packed practical guide. It does not live on the shelf in our house gathering dust and forms part of our coffee table in the center of the main family room. It has never been left alone for long and even if they are not actually making something, the kids enjoy looking at all the amazing ideas for themselves. If you are like me, and are always on the look out for fresh innovative things to stimulate your children and over the years you have spent a small fortune on material only to be left with an expanding bookshelf, look no further. This has everything you could dream of and I am sure you will not be disappointed and neither will your child.
