5.0 out of 5 stars Dark Dubstep , 28 May 2007
By M. Coleman "Mobius75" - See all my reviews

I bought this album knowing little about it. Except it was on the excellent Planet-Mu label. This is a superb album full of dark dubstep with massive heavy basslines and some unusual sampling going on. Some of my favourite tracks are Night Vision, Traffic, Cyclops, Cella and Confined but every track is great. If you like stuff by VEX'D, BOXCUTTER or BURIAL you will definitely want this album.

this dark rumpling grimey LP is full of wandering bass that really encourages your mind to wander and on one of my faves at mo along with skream and dub step compilation by science faction. must have

4.0 out of 5 stars Metallic, threatening, and forlorn, 8 Sep 2009
By J. Severidt "jornfin" (Rovaniemi, Finland) - See all my reviews
(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
A while ago a friend lent me an album called "Burial: Untrue". I mainly listen to classical music and jazz but keep an open mind for everything else, too. I had no idea who or what "Burial" was, but I found the music absolutely intriguing. It recaptured the atmosphere and feeling of driving through a big city late at night, just as I had experienced it 15 years ago, when living in Hamburg, Germany. I quickly snatched up Burial's other (first) CD, too. But where to go from there?

Distance appears to be most frequently associated musically with Burial, and I can see why. Yet it would be wrong to expect a clone (nor does it, by the way, make any sense to dismiss the music because it is "not as good as Burial"). Distance, too, creates a "late night in the metropolis" mood. But where Burial tends to romanticize the atmosphere, giving it a distinctly human touch, Distance paints a picture of a city almost void of life: His vision of the city is industrial, metallic and hard. The mood is often estranging, even threatening. Not as hypnotizing as Burial, but as engaging.

I am glad to have found Distance as a sort of alternative perspective on the same thing. Both Burial and Distance are masters of creating an incredibly intense mood, using little else than programmed drum beats, occasional abysmal bass lines, and forlorn synthesizer sounds sampled into the mix. Burial likes to add voic samples, Distance tendes to use heavy guitar riffs. Again, intriguing is the word.
